Default best kept as a secret

so word slowly started getting around. before you knew it people were coming up to me saying your the one with the type R arent you? i took it to a car show today and all that got me was fear of it getting stolen. Everyone crowding around my car and people flocking from far beyond to see what I had. Then some of the looks I got and people talking later on and glaring from a distance at the car got me a little paranoid. Good thing i'm in a rather safe community but a full out alarm system is deffinately going to have to happen. so for future owners... keep it a secret if you can lol people I dont even know, know about it. Crazy how word of mouth works. Started with 1 person. 4 hours later 5 people a day later 10 people....

I hear you. I work at a mall, and have to drive my R there everyday, park it in the same parking space, and check it every 5 minutes. I was on my way home from work last week, stopped at a town about 10 miles south of where the mall is to get something to eat at a convienent store. Saw a group of kids hanging out in the parking lot with there cars all backed in so I knew someone was going to approach me about my car. So after parking far away enough to give the vib that I don't wan to be bothered, a kid (probably around 21) approached me and said, you work at the mall, right? I told him he had that right. He takes out his cell phone, shows me tons of pics of MY car, I knew they were taken on different days because of the cars in the background of the pictures were all different. So after getting the kid off my *** about my car I finally got to go in the store and order the sandwich I've been craving all night. About seven minutes go by and I'm walking out of the store, walk around the corner of the place to go to my car, to see he pulled his car up next to mine, there are three kids with tripods and cameras set up all around my car, kids looking under it (I'm seeing this as I'm walking toward my car) for who knows what reason. I try to act real cool, approached the kids with the cameras and told him to get it away from my car, I don't want any bullshit like this, I'm on my way out. (These kids know where I work, I'm being real cool because I don't want my **** keyed or stolen) The kids start to back off once they see I'm not in any mood to play games, and I'm trying to leave. One asked where I worked in the mall (I'm in security) and I told him it didn't matter, I'm always watching everything. So from then on I see this kids at the mall having like Honda meets next to my car, comming in, finding me, asking me about it, ect. This is what made me decide I NEED a daily driver real QUICK. My car is yellow and sticks out like a sore thumb in the parking lot. The attention you get for having an R, and a yellow one, SUCKS.

So that's my awesome story, I'm sure you all cared for it, I'm bored and had the energy to type all this up. I'm sure there are tons of you guys on here with similiar stories and worse ones..

I know. The cool thing is about where I park I can see it from every main entrance to the mall. These are really just kids who seem to be inlove with the R. They all drive **** boxes and the oldest kid has to be around 21, the rest all being around 17 and 18. They seem like curious kids who are just intrested in the car because it's not everyday they see a yellow R. But I really trust nobody, so I know I have to watch my back in every way.

Yes, you needed one before picking up the R. I just don't see how people can count on an R as their only car anymore. I couldn't live with that paranoia of checking it every 5 minutes (or often) because it's sitting in such public places unattended. Even if it's not stolen, plenty more ******** out there who'd love to key it or pop the red A's off, take your lip, etc.
Good luck mang.

You're absolutly correct. It's not so much the theft I'm worried about, it's the jelous ones destroying it. I had a stock '97 Civic hatchback that I loved before I bought my R, I planned on dailying it after I bought my "dream car". Found my R and needed 3k more so there went my little ek . I'm in the process now of finding another ek.

It's horrible that things have to be this way where we can't even enjoy cars we put so much money out for to the fullest because of all the scum out there.

I know the feeling... I installed a custom security system on my garage to even give me a little more piece of mind. I drive it to drive it...never to leave it sit unless I can see it. I see the posts like the Miami one from yesterday far too often. Not gonna let it happen. ***** theives in their asses!

You guys must live in sheltered little crazy towns. I've never had any one approach me about my car or freak because it's an R. Then again I can count off hand like 9 others within a 25 mile radius. I had two other beaters and I've since sold both because I enjoy driving the car too damn much now that it's done. Letting a car sit at home all day is kinda pointless, especially since I have such a fun drive to work.

Fact of the matter is that if someone wants to steal your car, they're going to regardless of what you do. If you make it too hard, they'll just destroy it in the process. I'm just too old and under enough stress to worry about my car all day long. It is just a car.

This is a pretty good approach. I'm the same way with my Supra. If you are nice and cool with them, chances are, they won't mess with your car. The less people you **** off, the better your car would be.

There's a thread from TI my buddy told me about of local guys talking about seeing my car and two of my buddy's cars and where they always see us and whatnot.

creeps. that's why mine is protected under layers of security. 17 copper jacketed hollow pointed layers of security.

It's a good layer to have, but don't solely rely on one. And for the OP a full alarm system should be the first mod you get for a car.
