Default Q for Honda bull

I read your write up. also the helms manual, re the double synchro gears in the GSR/ITR trannys, Other posts say no such thing. Was that issue ever resolved. I haven't seen inside a GSR/ITR tranny yet, so can't verify, but would like to know. thanks.

What issue? The 3rd gear synchro I replaced? The trans worked great, it was sold to my brother's friend.

But the 3rd gear synchro is not a dual-cone synchro. Not sure what you mean by 'double synchro gears'... please elaborate.

sorry, I called it the wrong name. Maybe you weren't in on the discussion. Some say all b series synchros are identical, no such thing as a double cone in a b series? but the helms manual mentions it if I recall. nothing to do with your build. just the refference to the ITR trannys being better because of the different synchros. I was wondering if you had actually seen what the difference is in the two types, if there is two types.
Thanks.

All hydro ITR, GSR, and B16 trans share the same synchros. Dual-cone 2nd, single-cone 1,3,4,5,R.

LS trans use a single-cone for 2nd. And have smaller 3-4 synchros, IIRC.

So yes. There is a difference. The people saying all of the B-series have identical synchros are incorrect, and never opened a trans. The HELMS is correct.

Well that just puts a big ol dent in my newest strategy to build the perfect combo for my Mini race car. I am going for highest possible 5th gear and final drive with my 10 inch wheels/ 1200 pound car, so have been collecting parts to use an LS hydro box with Mfactory helical diff. (.714 5th and 4.26 FD). So now, the 3/4 synchros are smaller, therfor not as good for track racing, no doubt. can the better synchros be swapped in? Need to keep the final and 5th ratios, and would hate to use a shorter3rd/ 4th too.
