Axle keeps popping out of intermediate shaft, need some input!
Hey yall,
I have a 94 Si Hatch with a 98 b18b1 swap and an LS non GSR tranny - the chassis has an intermediate shaft on the driver side and the inner axle joint keeps popping out of the intermediate shaft output side - not completely to a point where it wont drive the wheel but when you look under the car it its almost completely out of the intermediate shaft. I am using 3rd gen integra axles and wondering whether I should be using the stock civic axles instead to prevent popping out?? Does anyone know if the civic EG axles will fit my setup? If anyone has a similar issue or know how to fix this please let me know! Thanks!

Yeah because the chassis is a 94 civic Si. Do the 3rd gen integras have a intermediate shaft design? If so would I be able to use an integra axle instead of the civic axles? Also I have no idea which intermediate shaft is in the car...civic or integra and are they interchangable?
Can one of you integra owners quickly look under your car to see if you have an intermediate shaft on your driver side?

OOOPPSSS sorry... I am using integra axles! I was thinking elsewhere - so because its a civic chassis should I rather use civic axles instead becuase of the integra axles popping out?
You shouldnt need spacers, the 3rd gen integra axles should work for the car just fine if you have the LS motor and trans. Replace the axles because if the boots are trashed then the CV joint inside the boot will be contaminated and is probably destroyed as well.

Well the boot keeps on ripping. I already had them replaced twice and the boot keeps on ripping I am beginning to think its because of the fact that the axle keeps on popping out of the intermediate shaft. The splines on the axle output shaft are pretty long I think if I use some spacers it will be pushed back into the intermediate shaft and still have enough length to attach to the wheel hub. Just wondering if someone found a better solution?
If the boot keeps ripping then its hitting something, look for what it could be hitting. Also replacing the boot doesnt mean the axle is good. sounds to me like the axle is binding and backing its way out of the halfshaft. get your self some new axles
the boot has nothing to do with it popping out! look at the end of the axle where it goes into the halfshaft, it might be worn or damaged.
I had this problem on my DA but I didnt do a swap so heres what happened, the passenger axle started making noise so I replaced it, 3 weeks later im pulling in the front gate of my aparments and the car would not move I thought the clutch was gonne but the passenger axle popped out so I just pushed it back in but it kept on popping out so I decided to pull it all the way out and the clip was missing I just installed a new one and problem solved

Ok missing clip seems way too easy but lets see I am going to be pulling it out pretty soon...my car is drivable just fine though. To the PP...I have replaced my AXLES not just the boots twice and the same thing happens.

you guys r not reading my posts. I have already replaced the axle. NOT THE BOOTS THE AXLE ITSELF. I didnt even say that I replaced the boots, how in the world would someone do that? Cut em off? LOL
i am having the same problem but my axle isnt even going in to the intermediate shaft what im going to try is to switch the intermediate shaft but when u install ur axle do u check that the axle locks in to the shaft or not
I have a noise coming from my axle when I turn and I'm thinking it might be this.
Axles/Intermediate Shaft:
94+ Integra, ’99-00 Civic Si(R), del-Sol VTEC
OR
90-93 Integra
Either get the 94+ axles/intermediate shaft or the ’90-93 axles/intermediate shaft.
Mixing ’90-93 axle/intermediate shaft with its ’94-00 counterpart will not work.
You may want to replace the axle and intermediate shaft set rings if they are damaged. You can use ABS or Non-ABS axles if you do not have ABS in your car.
When I bought my 93 Cx Hatch...it came with a B20B swap. Last summer I replaced both axles with aftermarket axles from AutoZone and Napa. I didn't notice it at first...but after a while I started hearing this knocking noise when turning left while pushing on the gas/accelerating, (noise not present when off the gas, in neutral, coasting or when the clutch is engaged). I recently replaced the driver side axle and it's still making the same noise.
I'm starting to think that the intermediate shaft might be from a ’90-93 integra and that is what axles were being used at the time of the original swap. I've been replacing them with '98 integra axles all along. Hmmm
EDIT: Nevermind...looks like the difference is where the axle/cv shaft connects to the half shaft/intermediate shaft is what the difference is...so my axle wouldn't even work with the older style intermediate shaft.
