Any 88-00 D15 or D16 head gasket... It just depends if you want a graphite one or a metal one. Once you decide that, then we can be of better service to you.

I don't think age matters.
If your motor or head is warped then you shouldn't try patching the problem by changing the material of the headgasket.
It will probably just blow again anyway.

Yes sir.

Also since it's a touch thinner and better made run one for a z6 or y8.

I hear ya on trying to fix the actual problem, but in some cases, would think the softer gasket would be more forgiving of minor (with-in spec) irregularities.... could be wrong tho.

Check surface of the block with feelers and a trusted straight edge, get the head milled for a bit more fun factor at the same time then run a layer of copper spray to seal up any imperfections.

Badda boom, badda bing.

Also, as mentioned, definitely use the z6/78 metal gasket too.

I'm not even sure I'd call this a correction, or rather perhaps an addition... My SOHC ZC engine (non-vtec) has a head code of PM3-10. Not sure what that really means, but I've yet to find someone else with this head code. The engine and head have never been apart.

to put this back on topic, what is the benefit of the metal gasket? Just the toughness?

And could you use copper spray on a composite gasket?

You can use copper spary on anything you want.
It's just bonus protection.

Metal lasts longer and is tougher like you said.
