So I noticed this strange noise coming from the engine tonight. When the car is idling, it seems to make a strange noise that can only be heard with the hood popped and listening closely. The only way I can really describe the sound is that it sounds like what metal scraping on the ground sounds like.
After a minute or two this noise stops, but the second I tap the throttle, it starts up again. Is this normal? I'm thinking it may have something to do with the fuel injectors.

i think your car felt the whoopin i gave you on forza =]
lol jk man.
idk to be honest. it could be something with the spray of the injectors maybe.
im not sure how loud the injectors are on these motors either.
but can u give more details on the noise? like is it a constant scraping, or you hear it in short burst durations?
maybe it could be something loose and vibrating, like a washer or something.

Haha, I couldn't get traction until 4th gear, and by that time you'd be halfway down the track. My 580+ hp FG2 was slower than a stock FG2...haha
But watchout, I played with the gearing a little bit and cut a good 4-5 seconds off my 1/4mile time.
As for my real car, it sounds like it is a result of vibration. It is not a constant noise, nor is it a continuous noise, it seems to be rather random in the manner in which I'll hear the certain metallic "grinding" noise. It is also very subtle.
I'll try and get a video/recording of it tonight.

I thought for a second you might be having the same problem as me....but my noise was continuous at idle.....never goes away.
hey HT-Members. I upgraded from an 03 civic to a '10 Si Sedan (Sunday. 11/01/09). YAY!
Anyways. At first initial start up. I hear a whistling type/kind of noise. It really sounds likea a supercharger whining, esp. when i'm driving. TEEHEE. SOUNDS COOL TO ME, LOL!!
Just wondering if it's the 'PCV' valve going to work as it's been mentioned in this thread and in Ricos 'possible pulley problem' thread. Any feedback would be great.
p.s. sorry for barging in on your thread Fiji. Just thought i'd save the forum some thread space.

Don't next year models come out in September of the previous year? (So a 2010 Si would be out in September of 09)
Mines not really a whine. Yours sounds like a pulley.
Let me know.

They release at different times in different areas. 2008's weren't released until late October around here. When I was in the dealership "ordering" my car in late October of 07, the first '08 sold at my dealership was driving off the lot. Three long weeks later, my car finally arrived.
Simply squeeze the hose to the PCV valve closed. If it's the PCV valve (I'm sure it is), the noise will go away. There is a bulletin on this from Honda. Dealerships were replacing good idler pulleys and tensioner pulleys right and left, as the PCV valve rattling resonates up through the top of the motor and it sounds *EXACTLY* like a bad pulley.
