Icon2 HELP:do i need a new starter?

okay a little background info,
ibought the car.
every morning since then it crank like a good 4 seconds until it starts.
thought it was no problem cus i have no job and am a senior in HS.
mainly didnt want to worry.
slowly into the month the 4 seconds became 6 seconds of cranking then start.
i was gas'n one night,attempted to start the car she didnt start up.
and all and everything works fine.dash lights radio headlights taillights everythings works fine.
just no crank at all until i get jump started then it works.
drove it home let it sat for two weeks went to guam came back car worked fine.
then died once i got home,jump started and worked.

so ya thats it please tell me its the starter and nothing more.
and probably gotta replace the battery too just to be safe?

Get a free battery test from Autozone or NAPA or someplace like that. A bad battery is the first thing you want to check off your list of potential causes. The battery can lose too much power to turn the crank and still have enough to run accessories.

had the same problem and it turned out to be the battery got a new one and the car was fine i would get it check by autozone or napa like he said

probably battery...if it was the starter then jumping the battery should had no effect on the car turning on.

Agreed, sounds like your battery is to weak to turn the engine over. All of your accesories will still work well but the battery will not hold a full 12.6v.

Or, more likely, it'll have the full voltage but not enough current when it's under a load. You'd only notice the problem when loads are high (i.e. when starting the motor).
