hey, i have a 90 civic si and it runs kinda wierd. in all the gears til you get to about 4K rpm, it bogs down the more you step on the gas and acts like it has a miss or something. the cat was the first thing i thought of, so i took it to midas where they confirmed it was plugged. i smashed it all out and everything, but it is still doing it. also, when i get up to highway speeds (65-75mph) all of a sudden it will smell really bad and start smoking out the exhaust like its on fire. this last for about 5-10 seconds then goes away. it doesnt happen all the time though. i dont understand whats going on. any advice or suggestions or whatevr is greatly appriciated. thanks

 

Hey. I would like to say that it is something with the computer... or the Map sensor. also could be timing ... i need more info on what it is doing

 

The samething happened to my cousins 300zx. We replaced the plugsand plug wires, still did it. It ended up being the distributor cap, corosion on the post was causing it to ark and not ingnight the fuel corectly. Hope this helps, if not go to a mechanic.

 

Distributor problem/ignition system - try changing out plugs and wires as the above guy mentioned. Then if that don't work ur looking at cap and coil. LOL, if that still ain't it then maybe u'll end up like me having to change up the entire distributor....bling bling

 

that happened to me before i had a xs engineering ecu and the chip was loose all you have to do is bend the prongs out alittle, but make sure you don't do it too much(oh if this is the problem of course)

 

i changed plugs and wires today and it still does it. this is really frustrating me. how do i check the ecu or computer or whatever?

 

When a car smells like rotten eggs, they generally say its running lean. So, if your not taking a **** in your car and you smell rotten eggs, then its running lean. My first thought was "head gasket" when you said it smokes periodically and smells like ****. Your car could be burning water.

 

Rip open the carpeting and stuff from the passenger side. If urs is B16A u'll literally hae to take out the ECU because the light window is on a reverse side of ur plating. Anywyas, if it's just the D16A6, then u'll be able to see this window the size of a coin. Then turn ur key to the on position without starting and start counting blinks (short blinks = 1, long blinks = 10)
