Question about B18C Engine
I just bought a 1991 crx with a b18c swap. I understand this could either be a JDM gsr motor or a JDM type-r motor. The guy I bought it from claims its the type-r. I have researched the engine and what im finding is a little confusing. Vtec engages on my b18c at 5,000 rpm and the fuel shut off is around 8800 or so the best I can tell. It has an intake and headers and thats it as far as modifications go as far as I can tell. The car was dynoed, 187 peak hp at the wheels. My best 1/4 mile run was a 13.8 to give an idea of the performance. My question is does this sound like a type-r motor? From what ive read, the vtec is sopposed to engage at 5500 rpm not 5000 and the horsepower at the flywheel is sopposed to be 197 making 187 at the wheels seem a little high to me though this definately seems to rule out the gsr. Im sure its true (187 whp) becasue I saw the spec sheet. Also would a 13.8 1/4 sound in line with a type-r or a gsr swap? The car was lightened a bit, curb weigh without a passenger is 2050 pounds. Also it sopposedly has a type-r transmision. I dont know how to prove this but I found that when buying a motor you sometimes get the tranny with it. thanks, any insight would help!!!
starting from the left I have a circle with a raised line in the middle and a 9 on one side of the line and a 6 on the other..I assume this is the year so its a 96 year model motor. then to the right of that I have another circle with a raised line and just the number 7 on the top, then an inch or so further to the right I see another circle with a raised line and the number 5, then a few inches to the right a circle, raised line and a 9 on one side and 0 on the other.. then several inches to the right of that PR3-2 is stamped inside of a sort of oval indent then further to the right of that I see a H and an M stamped in. Can you make heads or tails of all this?
i'm sorry for the bit of misinformation on the head stamp, if it is pr3-2 then it is more than likely an ITR head which would mean you should have an ITR motor. B16 and ITR heads are the same casting which is why they are both stamped PR3-X
Sounds like you have a 96-97 spec ITR motor.

Thanks for the help. Im sure of what ive got now...by the way, Why is the ITR motor so expensive? I found a site that sells them http://www.sunrisejdmmotors.com/engi...p?id=11&page=1
The price per horsepower is very high compared to other honda motors. I assume these are highly sought after motors? Whats the big appeal?

you can do a little better than that price. $3500 shipped is the going rate for that link. some places will even sell for $3200 shipped. i remember a guy in this forum selling for that price. jdm engines corp will do $3500 shipped.
price break down isn't that bad
LSD trans $1000
ecu $100
engine $2400
