Default CEL Code P1456

So the code P1456 Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (Fuel Tank System) just popped up on my 2000 Integra GSR.

It does smell like gas a little bit when I first start the car every morning.

How do I approach fixing this?

I need to get my car inspected by the end of the month too, dammit perfect timing. Deleted the code so hopefully it doesn't pop back up anytime soon.

You have a fuel vapors leaking from somewhere, as in gas cap, fuel tank, evap cannister purge sol, pump, or hoses connecting to the cannister purge. What I would do is replace fuel cap first (cheap), if comes back on, find a GOOD shop with a smoke machine, pay them to smoke it and find leak, repair leak, done.

You can also do a visual first, it could be an obvious cracked hose, but if nothing visual, get it smoked.

If it comes back the first thing I would try is a new gas cap from the dealer and cleaning the filler neck where the cap seals to it. If it comes back after that it is usually either a Fuel Tank Pressure sensor or a filler neck issue. That's just based on what I've seen in the last 6 years.

This probably would have taken awhile to get answered in the Integra forum thats why I posted it here. I got 2 answers within minutes, amazing.

The car just hit 100k.

Thanks to the people with helpful responses.

use a lighter around your gas tank to check for gas leaks.

Burn some baby oil through it and find the leak. Why post this in GDD?
