Default Downgrading trans from SI to CX

So im running a boosted eg hatch. but once im building peak boost i have to shift again almost imediently so i was thinking about down grading to a CX which has a longer gear ratio. that would allow me to stay in my power band a little longer. does this make sense? i was curious what kind of effects i would have from this.

This would work. Many people do this for BOOST purposes. So it should be good. And you wont suffer from gay long gears cuz of all the torque from boost. For a N/A i would get the shortest damm tranny possible.

Are DX and CX trannies the same?? And yes a switch would be nice, plus the car will be a nicer ride.

My brother had a boosted EF and it was annoying driving on the freeway and hearing the spool.

6th gens are the same. 5th gens aren't. From longest to shortest: CX/VX->DX/LX->EX/Si

As long as you have traction you'll be faster with the Si tranny.

The 96-00 civic hx trans are geared nice and long for boost, I am unsure if there any weaker.

I'd recommend finding a different turbo to better suit your needs, rather than changing out the transmission. In the grand scheme of things, the Si transmission is actually geared fairly long as it is. I realize it's comparing apples to oranges (in terms of displacement and torque specifically), but when you compare the '92-'95 Si transmission to the '94-'01 LS/GS/RS transmission, the Si transmission is geared longer (with the exception of 5th gear). So why go with a transmission that's geared even longer than that?

I also hope you're referring to the '96-'00 CX/DX transmission, and not the '92-'95 CX/VX one.

They should actually be stronger than a CX/VX/DX tranny. They use the same big bearing case as the EX/Si tranny (larger input shaft bearings, needle bearing on the countershaft instead of a ball bearing, and larger differential carrier bearings [same carrier bearings as a B-series])

I second that all 96-00 d trannies are better. Due to the fact that the 96-00 have the stronger shift fork as opposed to the weak aluminum 92-95 has. Atleast thats what ive have heard.

i also heard this, that even though the 92-95 trannies have aluminum shif forks, they BREAK when broken. the 96-00 shift forks BEND when broken and damage other teeth on other gears, but whichever, the 96-00 trannies tend to have lesser miles on them

t25 its not the spool time thats the problem i accelerate so quick i never hold peak boost very long. longer geared i can stay in that range of power longer

I'm pretty sure I never said that. I said HX is tougher than a '96 - '00 CX/DX/LX tranny, and should be as tough as a '96 - '00 EX.

It is true that the '92 - '95 forks are aluminum and the '96 - '00 forks are steel, however you have to realize that theres a lot more material on the aluminum forks. Honestly of the 4 or 5 '96 - '00 D-series trannys i've pulled apart every single one of them had a worn out 3rd/4th shift fork. I've only ever pulled apart one '92 - '95 tranny, but the forks were all like new in it.

This statement doesn't really make any sense. That means you are accelerating. If you make less horsepower you will stay in each gear longer as well, but that doesn't mean your car is faster. Your car will definitely accelerate slower with a taller geared tranny regardless of fact your holding boost longer.

Isnt the point of having an Si(shorter geared tranny) is to accelerate faster down the track vs a longer geared CX/VX

swapping a si trans out for a cx even with boost is the stupidest thing i have ever heard! How about you buy some slicks so you get traction and stay with the si trans....

well if you are doing this for the fact of racing and accelerating why dont you take it to the drag strip, run a few passes with the si trans, then swap to the cx trans and go back to the track and figure out which one gives you better times and traps.

this way you personally know first hand what transmission is better suited for you the driver.

falling out of powerband with the cx trans would never make for a better 1/4 run...Unless you plan on doing top speed runs then stay with the si. check this out it may keep you from making a bad choice..http://www.zealautowerks.com/transcalc.php
