Default Rear Disc Conversion

The guy who sold me my car let me know that he has a new rear disc conversion for the car that he wants to let go for 200 bucks. Am i going to notice a big difference in braking w/ rear discs. How much extra weight does it usually add. Is it worth all the effort and money ?

it does not affect braking that much unless you upgrade to the 40\40 valve and a bigger master cly. it takes more pressure and more fluid to make the rear disc to work over the rear drums and so the 40\40 creates the pressure that it needs and then there is the volume of fluid which if you get the master cly of of a 1991 civic with abs then it will bolt up to 92-95 and maybe even 96-00 booster and it has a 15/16th bore.

200 bucks is a good deal, i'd take em up on that offer, like gsr hatch said, if you dont upgrade your valve, it'll be more of a show up grade than preformance.

it can be worth the effort and money if you need and are tracking the car but if you are DD'n the car then you don't need it. the disc brakes are possibly even light than the drums to be honest with you, if there is a weight difference there isn't much of one.

you could find out the rotaional weight by weighing a drum and rear disc.

your front brakes do the majority of the braking anyway if you want to upgrade braking i would go bigger in the front and and leave the drums in the back. Unless your pushing 300whp stock brakes should be fine for a dd. I would say there are better ways to spend that 200

well regardless rear disks really don't do much compared to upgrading the front, all i am saying is your money would be put to better use if it was spent on the front brakes.

a good set of rotors that can take a beating and a good set of pads. even if you are running 300 hp if you never track the car it isn't going to matter.

it is just as important to upgrade the front as it is to do the rear. If all you do is upgrade the front then the car will nose dive when braking and pull wieght and traction off of the rear and special if you road race the car then you need a good even braking so that the car stays as flat as possible during braking.
