Default Question about sandblasting a motor.

The outside of my motor is nasty looking. It doesn't have oil and crap on it but it just looks shitty. I don't want to "polish" it. I just want that fresh bead blasted look. If I masked it really well an cleaned it well after could I bead blast it without the motor being apart? I just want it looking fresh before it goes back in. Or is there any other way to get it looking good?

brass brush and steel wool would clean it up nicely. Id rather do that than bead blast it. Id be afraid of breaking something.
