Default Cooling options

So, with all the trouble that came about with the EWP debate, what options do we have for alternate cooling? I hear talk about "expensive alternatives" but can't seem to find my own alternative. I'm currently using an EWP in hopes that people will smarten up and allow if for use in the Outlaw class....

Couple questions....

What should I look for or look out for when searching for an approved fluid to use as a coolant?
Is Evan's Coolant allowed for use at the track?
Water Wetter is legal right? I've been using it for a while, but never heard it was prohibited.
Is anyone setting up a pit 'bypass type coolant' setup? If so, what does it consist of?

Thanks for the help!

Well, the Meziere unit is not $500....

I've got the standard Meziere EWP kit that they made for the Honda's.
I've also got a Meziere radiator mount style pump for my A/W intercooler.

I have thought of ways to cool the motor by using the fitting in the head, by the cam gears, and putting a fitting in the water jacket in the block. That will allow the cooling of the motor, but then you have the heat soaked radiator to worry about.... there has to be something better....

Here is another question.... will water flow around the impellar of the OEM pump if it's not moving?

Doesn't come with a mount and I don't have any pics of mine. Mine is completely different from what anyone is likely to do though, so pics probably wouldn't do much for you.

On our normal installs we mount them similar to the Meziere setup.

Care to elaborate on what it is that you are doing with yours then? If not, I understand....

I just don't have the water pipe on the back of the block anymore. I made an adaptor to fit the block that adapts to a -16 male. The water pump is mounted on the crossmember. The inlet of the water pump goes to the bottom of the rad and there is a Tee at the pump with the feed from the header tank.

EDIT:^^^my screen was open and i didnt see that tony put almost the same thing i was typing

Im not to fond of putting it on the tranny. Im going to actually have mike@t1 fab me one or i will do it myself. I have just enough room to put the pump behind the motor to the right of the rear mount (looking at the motor from the front) and on a bracket suspended from the cross member.. Hope that made sense.

then i want to cut the "water tube" (not sure of the technical name) on each side, and weld 90's on both sides back to the water pump so the pump is in a stock location. Man i hope all that made sense.

Sounds like you will still have the OEM pump in place? Same with what Tony is doing too....

Did Tepid call and order that setup from you yet.

Haha. Thanks for continuing to be a wise-*** Chad.

I have my own method, but it just doesn't seem as easy as what Tony is doing.... which is why I wanted opinions.

So is the Evan's Coolant stuff legal?

Technically you can run anything in the coolant system, just don't put any down on the track

All the NHRA books say water only, so I'd build it around that.

Make a dry ice bucket and run the coolant through that lol, or find a way to run the system under vacuum

What is the flow of the off the shelf 'honda kit' mezieres? My WP366 is good for 55 gpm, I'm sure that other one is okay too but if you have a rad why not get it to and from it more frequently.

The kit flows 20gpm or some **** like that.... That's fine and dandy for our cars. You don't need that high of flow. 55gpm is overkill for these cute little motors.

Why run in vac? You typically raise pressure to lower the boiling point.

The ruel book does say water only.... Evan's Coolant has ZERO water in it.... that's why I ask.

The boiling point gets raised, but there is no affect on temperatures.

Our vacuum ovens at work WILL not operate over 200 deg. F in a vacuum, but they can hit 400 deg. F in at ambient no problem.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

I'd stray from the additives besides Water wetter, I've never seen a drop due to the stuff but it adds some lube.

That's wrong brother.... sorry

Water in a vacuum will boil at a lower point. Hell, in a perfect vacuum it will boil below room temp.

Here is an example....

With the pressurized water nuclear reactors I work with they typically run 2250psig and DNB (departure of nuculide boiling) happens around 700deg F at that pressure. Full on boil begins around 800+ in the core. We run them pretty conservative at 550deg F. This also helps with the fission process....
