03 rsx s action clutch install, problems shifting and whining
So I got my action clutch installed, stage 4. After the installation when clutch begins to engage, there is a distinct chirping/whining coming from the transmission. My gears no longer ease into place anymore, now they just feel hard and notchy when shifting, actually have to apply good pressure to get it into gear. I did also install poly inserts for my front and rear mounts as they were beginning to tear. Any ideas?
Rule out the motor inserts. My mounts did nothing but make shifting easier and more solid and precise.
Did you do the install? If not, take the car back to the shop that did.

Yea I installed it myself, the second clutch I've installed in my car. I've had hasport mounts before so I didn't really think that had anything to do with anything, but I fugured the mount inserts may be contributing to the noise. Plus my car shakes like mad when under 1000 rpm now.
which clutch did u get? 2 ms? sprung or unsprung? Kevlar? 6 puck? with a heavy duty clutch there is ease any more its clutch on clutch off, feather is just about non apparent. how much tranny fluid did u put back in it? and most puck clutches will make some noise during engagement.
It's a 1ms 6 puck non grooved sprung non Kevlar. I never drained the trans and never filled it. I usually would drain it, but didn't this time. The guys i had help me refused to help if I was going to spend the time to drain it, number and label bolts, etc. Apparently that makes me a *****? Anyway, there you go. Thinking Bout having AAMCO take a look at iron Tursday bc I'm tired of taking this **** apart. If you own an RSX you know the sub frame is just a massive annoyance

umm dude u have to drain the trans to pull the axles, the fill plug is higher than the axle imputs. the people that helped you are ****ing retarded and they might have just cost you grand in repairs.
It's just a terrible noise. Sounds like a dying elephant... Not really a whine, more between a low pitched chirping or two different compounds causing uneven friction. Like if I tried to erase a chalkboard with rubber or poly. I can go in reverse without touching the throttle, just gotta lift up the clutch a little... I could hear my gears the other day, sounds terrible. Only shifts and drives alright when it's heated up. IDK Acura trans are terrible...
Random question: why on earth are you running that kind of clutch is this is a DD? I mean, are you putting down over 400whp? If not, seems like a waste of money.
Just to let you guys know, my trans complete failed on me. The grinding got worse, transmission began leaking after I ran Royal Purple through it, and now I'm just having trouble trying to find someone who knows what the **** they're doing here in Eugene, OR and can work on my trans besides the dealership. Anyone know a good transmission specialist around here? All I can find are Automatic specialists, who fix soccer mom vans and classic auto overdrives...

Might be worth it to just scrap the tranny. Sell it for what someone is willing to pay for it, and get a new one dude. I would just start keeping my eye on craigslist or at other online retailers for a new tranny.
best guess for me is that the clutch and pressure plate aren't flush that would cause a hard pedal....another could be the syncros in the transmission are starting to wear
Yea, well, I took it to the Honda dealership, so of course they are telling me my clutch is trash, I just installed it, then they're telling me my flywheel needs to be scrapped (installed in Feb 09' Exedy Lightweight) and they want to charge me $2000 for the install and parts, ****in' really? They found a refurbished trans for $2600. So its up to $4600 and they won't let me get my car back without them replacing parts I don't want replaced.
Shoulda just ordered a trans through them and done it myself for $2600, hah
