Default Info on First-Gen CR-X and Civic Si Hatches PLEASE?

Hey I think I'm about to obtain a first-gen CR-X. It's a one-owner 1986 WHITE CR-X Si with a blown head gasket. From what I understand the car has never been hit and has a 100% clean body on it.

Few questions:

What's the stock numbers like for the 12 valve MPFI motor in the 1986-1987 Si?

What's a perfect 1986 CR-X Si go for? The person selling it is throwing in a new motor too, but it's not in the car yet.

How rare is the WHITE one? I've really only seen mostly Red and Black ones, but I know white was offered.

What kind of affordable suspension set-ups can be bought for these cars?

I know the front has no springs, and the rear isn't independent. I know these cars are bad-*** for auto-X, but those guys usually run Koins or some other expensive stuff.

How easy/hard is the 1986-1989 Integra D16A1 swap? I have access to a motor for basically free, but no tranny.

I've *heard* that the D16A1 will bolt up to the stock 1986 CR-X tranny - is this true?

I guess that's it.

I've always liked those cars, and this one will be a back-up to the car listed in my signature, so I can't go nuts with performance mods on it.

One of the things that worries me though is the apparent lack of good, cheap sus parts. My EG/EH has them and so does my EF/ED.

Thanks in advance!

Last thing:

Anyone got some links with good pictures of clean 1985-1987 CR-X Si or Civic Si hatches? I already saw one killer site where the guy had a black one then a silver one.

Well I found some specs on the CR-X - 91hp and 1981lbs.

But can anyone else answer any of the other questions?

they have torsion bars up front and the normal honda spring/shock setup in the rear. not sure what they have for options, but i know OPM sell torsion bars for the front and you could go with whatever spring/shock combo in the rear...

my friend did this swap and its very tight. don't get me wrong, it does fit, but its tight. not sure about the wiring, but the Si is the better model to have (less or no wiring needed).

you should NOT have to swap "gas tank, lines and everything", because si is already injected. but can some one back up that the d16a1 will bolt to stock rex tranny???????? been asking same quest for days..........also, my 1st gen rex is also white, and not the ugly *** 2 tone black/white. happy rexing

91@5500 hp, 93@4500 tq, 8.7:1
as for weights...
for the crx's: 85 Si...1890, 86-87 Si...1953, 86-87 1.6i-16...1984
for the civics: 86-87 Si...1980

What's a perfect 1986 CR-X Si go for?
depends on area. in AZ, ones that are in decent condition go for about $1500 to asking prices of $3000 sometimes.

What kind of affordable suspension set-ups can be bought for these cars?
you can do a lot to it's suspension actually. you can upgrade front and rear disk brakes to 86/89 Integra, and if you use the Integra dead axle, it has an internal sway bar the civic/crx's never came with. you can make strut bars as they're kinda hard to find, but i have a Cusco front and Grex rear. there's tons of spring companies that make rear springs with different drops. or ground-control offers a set for you, which is what i have. Tokico HP, Illumina, and Koni's are the most popular strut apps. You can upgrade to thicker torsion bars up front, OPM and ground control both offer thicker torsions. or you can also use the Integra's which are thicker than the civic/crx's. sway bar kits are out there. ST, addco, OPM, all the popular companies offer them for the car. and the misc. things like camber plates (because when you lower front and rear, you don't get any neg. camber. stupid torsions), poly bushings, and adj. panhard bars (to align the axle after lowering) are out there too.

One of the things that worries me though is the apparent lack of good, cheap sus parts.
like i said above, you can get rear springs, struts, and maybe some strut bars or rear sway bar all for relatively cheap. it's a nice riding/handling setup for the work and money involved. all that can be found/had for cheaper than you'd prolly pay for comparable stuff for the 88up civics.

try these links...
http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/F.../sndwks24.html (crazy tuuubo bseries setup)
http://community-1.webtv.net/agReziv...siR/index.html
(really ricey site, but take some time and look at the links he has, some cool *** JDM pics of the civic/crx, he's got pages of the year specific Mugen catalog on there for these civic/crx's :thumbup
http://www.opmmotorsports.com (for cool suspension stuff, they offer pretty much everything you need to successfully race the damn thing)
http://www.ground-control.com (coilovers and torsions)
http://www.redpepperracing.com/forum/ikonboard.cgi (VERY informative people there. cool pics, links, info, FAQ, racing, all that jazz. ask/look there about the teg motor swap too.)

hope some of this helps ya. if i can stand waiting for pics to upload...i'll post some nice ones.

EDIT: fixed the links.

Thanks so much man!

I wasn't aware that there were so many sus opyions. I just want something fresh since the sus on it is original I presume. Something a tad stiffer would be nice. This will be my daily driver pretty much, but if I like it enough it just might become one of 2 SCCA SoloII cars then depending on which car of mine is classed better.

Feel free to post a few pics or yours as well as some other cool 1984-1987 CR-X/Civics.

So can anyone verify the claim that the stock CR-X tranny will bolt up to a D16A1?

No, the CRX tranny will not bolt to the D16A1 block. I've done this swap twice. They were both a long time ago (10 years). I do recall however that the Civic tranny would not bolt to the Integra block. The Civic tranny is configured for the 84-87 block, which is somewhat different from the Integra block.

Here are some resources:
- http://members.aol.com/quikd16/guide/
- http://www.hasport.com/M84-B16 installation.htm
- http://www.zdyne.com/convhome.html

These were some of the sources that I used when I did the zc swap in my 87 crx si.
It was very straight forward and night and day difference compared to the stock setup. HTH
