Default VTEC Controller questions.. hElP.!

OK here is the problem i have, I own an 2005 civic ex and want to use a vtec controller. Are they universal or should I find one for my car? Then what about buying them off ebay- thoughts and comments on that. Will I have to upgrade the internals? Should I get one with LED screen or is a **** just as good? Is useing a vtec controller the best way to take the rev limiter off? Does any one use them in their d17's?
