94 ls motor in my 97 ls shell?
The motor in my 97 gs needs help. Thank god i have a 94 gs for a winter car. The body is really rough on the 94. But my 97 is mint. What do I have to do to put the 94 ls motor into my 97 shell? I know the 97 is obd2 and the 94 is obd1 and there is the crank sensor that is different on the 97 but what else? Can i just bolt the intake manifold off my 97 to the 94? Really dont wanna strip my whole dash and harness out of my 94 just to make the 97 run but whatever. Any help?

this motors are the same beside the emissions, motors will fit and parts interchange with out a hick-up... im running a 92 gsr on my 98 civic... 90% of the sensor plug in with out problems, and the the ones that dont fit its just a plug swap wires are the same

OP, you can just pull the ole switcheroo, however there are a few snags. you will need an obd2 to obd1 conversion (jumper) harness, in order for your '94 engine to work with your 97 shell. also, you need to check with your local laws regarding emissions. here in NH, there is no emissions testing, but in CA, that's a big red flag. other than that, all of your other parts are interchangeable.
...yes. why wouldn't you be able to???
what would be the purpose of this? a b18a is an older g2 engine, the OP already has an engine to put in, and it happens to be generation specific.

OP, just do what you were going to do. swap your engine harness, distributor, and maybe the mani. end of story.

i said that to reiterate the fact that he should be able to swap in any engine in the b18 family as they are more or less the same dimensions and ,for the most part, have the same mounting points. you need to figure out how to read between the lines. he does not need a conversion harness and emissions will not be a problem as long as he swaps all of the obd2 stuff to the block.

have you ever seenthe difference between obd1 and obd 2 b18 engines? obviously not. besides, he has both engines and both harnesses. it can't be too hard to make one engine look like the other by swapping stuff around. he does not need to swap ecus. you have the completely wrong idea about what he is doing. please do not confuse matters on here.
hmmm. the only thing i'd worry about is the crank position sensor

now for the easy way which i think so u can do this swap but not street illegal is to make make it obd 1 just change the ecu engine hardness not from your dash just the engine from 94 gs and take the ecu and the engine and change it over to your 97 gs and everything should just bolt on and click on to the 97 gs. just keep in mind it wouldnt pass ref if u ever get pull over and get a ticket to ref it. but your car would fine this way
So the plugs on my 94 engine harness are the same as the shell of the 97? so its pretty much plug and play as long as i use the 94 ecu as well. I was just worried about the dash harness and the rest of the wiring not matching up and then having to strip the 94 to the shell and put all wires into the 97. If its that easy then it should only take a day or so. Thanks for all your guys input. Helped a bunch. Keep em comin . lol

check it out, all you need to do is use the obd1 dizzy and what plug did you say was different on your obd2 intake,,just take that sensor and swap it..im running a b18a1 bottom end and a 2000 which is obd2 b16a2 head and im using all obd1 in my 95 gsr..using a obd1 p72
The only thing about that is that the sensor missing is the crank sensor, and i dont know how involved it is to install it on my 94 bottom end. Will find out tomorrow when the motor is out i guess.
crank sensor, yeah dont plug it up becuase on obd1 there is not one..just use the obd1 ecu the p75 and you should be good.
I have the whole obd 1 car. whats the easiest route without the harness? Strippin the whole car? Like dash harness and all? Dont wanna wait to get the harness ordered and all that fun stuff
why do u think u have to strip the dash harness? If your putting it into a car designed for a obd2 just get a obd2 ecu, and just make the obd1 motor into a obd2. And make sure to use a obd2 engine harness, ur just going to need to swap out a bunch of stuff...and if you didnt want to make into obd2, you just get a obd2 to obd1 adapter harness for the obd1 ecu
Then i run into the Crank sensor problem, my 97(obd2) Motor has one and my 94(obd1) does not. How can i put a crank sensor on my 94? is it part of the oil pump?

You can go about it two different ways ...
The easiest would to just order a jumper harness that goes from obd2a to obd1.
You plug that right into where the ecu normally plugs in, then you plug your obd1 ecu into that,
then you don't have to worry about messing with the engine at all.
Or, you could swap all the parts from the obd2 engine along with the engine harness and stay stock.
You would need to possibly change the intake manifold along with the injectors, distributor, alternator, and crank sensor.
And changing the crank sensor would involve taking the crank pulley off and doing the timing belt.
So it would be a Lot more work trying to turn your older motor into obd2.
