Default MIDAS=Joke**please help**

Ok..took my 94 in for an oil change because i didnt have time to do it myself and figured it would be faster. Got the car back and went back to work. Sat for approx. 5hrs then i drove it to the gas station. When i pulled out to leave, just started smoking like the engine was on fire but it had the distinct burning oil smell so i pulled over. Two things..oil leak or way too much oil. Too much oil and when i say too much oil..i mean almost 5 inches above the full dot on the dipstick. Im not sure to what extent it hurt my engine due to having to come back to work. but what do you guys think? I start the car, she idles fine for about 10 seconds..then all H*** breaks loose. i have a small exhaust leak in my exhaust where the down pipe meets the cat and noticed oil was leaking from there. Turn it back on and sure enough, the smoke is coming from there. What needs to be done now since oil is in my exhaust manifold. Can i drain oil out of pan and see where that leaves me? I really need input in this guys. If i had a trans for my h22, i wouldnt mind cause id be able to do the swap but i dont so need this fixed asap. by the its d15b

rechange you oil and see where it leaves you, i mean the reason its acting weird is prolly cause u have air in you oil. also too much oil will cause leaks form all over the place. Change the oil yourself real quick to the right amount and that should fix it as long as u didnt do any internal damage.

yeah that what im hoping didnt happen. Im not hearing any knocking or unusal noises other than sounding like a wrx like the motor is bogging or something if i press the gas a little. its sitting now, im going to drain it first thing in the morning and see where that leaves me. Whats the worst that could happen other than bent rods and nroken seals and seats? Why is the oil coming through the exhaust mani?

see when you over fill your oil it creats a mess, there is more oil than is supposed to be and it turns the engine into a mixing machine and produce mad air... also pushing the oil into places it usually isnt with added pressure causing a leak you normally wouldnt see. You should be ok, i would check ur plugs too, cause ive heard of ppl popping plugs from too much oil. Change your oil that should fix it if u didnt do any permanent damage which it seems like u didnt for now

ok cool..thanks make you made me feel a little better than before. I will update later when i change it. i usually use 5w30 3.5 quarts but they said they put in 10w30 since we are in hawaii and its a constant temp year round. will that make a difference, switching weights like that?

Since crankcase was overfilled with oil, it's possible that oil was sucked through the crankcase ventilation "PCV valve" via the intake and was burning through the combustion chambers. After draining the oil and adding the correct amount, checked your spark plugs to see if they are coated with oil.

could be worse man too much oil can cause the same effect as too much water... it can cause the motor to seize.

i dunno about the oil weight cause since u have higher temps wouldnt u wanna use like a 10w 40?

why not file a complaint with midas, and get them to reimburse you for any damages. don't let them fools get away with that man.

this...why are you trying to fix it yourself you paid them to do the job right. They did it wrong make them do it correctly and if there is damage to the engine make them pay for that too. There is no reason for you to spend your time fixing their mistake.

call your lawyer. then call a tow truck, then call the shop to have them fix it. video them draining the amount of oil. Have them in writing specify the amount that was in there. Have everything documented.

I used to work at a Speede oil change and we would always show the customer there oil level and make them sign off that the oil level is ok.

Sorry for the thread jack. Hope that everything works out. The quick lube business is a tricky business to work in.

Sounds like to me that they forgot to drain the oil first then add the fress oil. I've seen that haha it's funny. Just drain it out and add fresh to the proper fill line. start engine, shut off engine and check level. As for the smoke, It might take a while but should go away

yet another reason why i dont let anybody touch my car other then me or my dad, or if they do its under close watch. if they cared in the slightest bit they would have never done this. IMO treat your car like a kid, dont leave them places you dont trust.

Filing a complaint to Midas/Jiffy Lube/etc is like going to a police station and telling them that a cop beat you up...they are just going to disregard it and pretend that they are handling it. I'm not sure if you guys have seen NBC's past specials and undercover investigations on Jiffy Lube and how they keep ripping off their customers that seem in the dark about how a car works, it's atrocious. There's a special place in hell for people like that...and an even worst place for medical insurance companies (that's a whole other story). Change your own oil from now on or develop a relationship with a mechanic that seems legit and you can keep going back to. Good luck man, nothing but the best for ya.
