No Start/S light blinks 5 times/Help
My 90 Accord is cranking but not starting. I have searched and searched here and with Google searches. What I know..5 s light blinks=Map Sensor however on other websites they say that 3 blinks=Map sensor failure. I hear the main relay clicks, and my fuel pump.
Now if I buy a used OEM Map sensor on ebay and it still shows the code am I safe in saying that I need a new Ecu?
TIA...Will

Transmission trouble codes are not the same as ECU trouble codes. 5 blinks of the S light means something possibly wrong with the console switch or wiring.

Your starting problem may possibly be due to something else.
Here is some info. regarding what a console switch is and some tests:

Ok I read the above listed links and they all describe symptoms unlike mine. If the console switch is out, the car will not go out of park, ignition key is stuck etc. These are not my symptoms. Thanks for the help, does anyone have any other ideas. I dont have access to a scanner, so thats out. Thanks.
when you first turn on the ign. the engine light should turn on and go off after a few seconds. If it stays on you have a main relay problem. If it turns off then check for spark and or fuel pressure. let us know what you find. dont worry bout the codes yet.

I pulled back the carpet to see the red flashes. The left most bulb I got 9 flashes. The right bulb I got 8,1, 7 and 2 flashes. Is the left bulb for the trans and the right for the ecu?
Im assuming the 7 flashes means my TPS is fried and the 8 flashes means I need a new distributor? Flashes 1 and 2 are the 02 sensors and the 9 is ...?

remove a spark plug wire. stick a long screw driver in it. hold the metal part of the screw driver near a ground and crank the engine. it should jump a spark from the screw driver to ground. You will need to hold it pretty close to ground about 1/8 to 1/4 inch.
I pulled out the ECU backup fuse and cleared all but the code 9, TDC sensor. I pulled out the spark plug, which was covered in oil btw, and stuck the screwdriver in it and it got spark.
Is it possible for the plugs to be fouled from the bad valve cover gasket which would give the code 9? I guess my next thing to do is replace the spark plugs, wires and valve cover gasket.

Yes, it is possible that the oil if shorting out the ign. wires. You will need to replace your spark plug tube seals and maybe your rocker o-rings too. I would still do the troubleshooter for the code 9.
Ok. I bought new wires, plugs and the valve cover gasket with the seals. After I install them Ill pull the ECU backup fuse and hopefully the code will disappear. Then Ill move on the TPS issue and possibly a broken fan switch...

ECM is behind the plate, TCM is the one exposed. The diagnostic jumper plug is the blue connector visible against the door jamb.

You have several courses of action.
Used distributor (Salvage Yard Special)
Remanufacturered Unit (available thru either e'stores or can be ordered thru such as Napa Autoparts etc.
EBay "Hail Mary" purchase.
