Hi,

I am working on a 4th generation prelude with the h22 engine in it.

The symptoms that the car is showing are that the idle is going up and down between 1k and 2k rpm, upon initial cold start up. What can cause this? Is there a switch or valve that is malfunctioning? A fast idle control solenoid perhaps? when the car is warm, the idle is steady.

I come from a nissan background, if it counts for anything.

 

There is a fast idle valve that is a common culprit to this problem, search the archives....

that brass looking cap on the back of the FITV. (under TB)
Open cap, tighten white cap all the way down. put brass cap back on, problem solved.

 

Look for the idler control valve

 

umm, No. fix your FITV before you chage your idle via ICV.
