i believe you have to send it to Cobb and you end up paying a hefty fee, but one that is less than buying a complete new unmarried setup. this service costs somewhere in the 400 dollar range.

Find where he sold the car to and then go to the de*ler and test drive that car and while your there just plug it in and hit unlock. That can be a way to avoid the $400 fee
I say you got scammed dude. The seller knew full well it wasn't returned to stock I bet he didn't even sell the car. "I'll get a custom tune and scam some schmuck and make my money back."
^ Exactly. I really hate how Hondata and Cobb went about this. They made it wayyy too easy to be scammed out of $700. I know where they're coming from, but c'mon.. you pay for something, it should be yours to use without limitations. If you want to borrow someone's AP to use it, no one should be able to stop you. Luckily Hondata made it stupidly easy to get around their locking to the ECU and it's not a huge problem. I donno how it is for the Cobb AP, though.

no i don't think it got scammed i just think the seller didn't know you had to uninstall it before you sell it back out. because i'm able to plug it in and have it run and all just can't do any reflash or live data logging. i check the status on the unit and it still say installed but i guess it's to the previous car and the map that was last flashed was the stock style map.
hondata and cobb went about locking each product to one car so that they don't lose money. because that way, you wont have one guy running around uploading calibrations to everyone's car. everyone would need their own ap or fp to tune their car. in my perspective, it was the right thing to do from a business stand point. and i don't hate on them for doing that either.

that's like saying you want to be able to use an intake on both cars, and should only have to buy one.
these companies don't make money for R&D and to perpetuate themselves by making family deals based on nothing but 'trust'. you know just as well as i do that if they did allow multiple licenses per unit people would abuse it and they'd lose sales.

It could be that the guy didnt know you have to unmarry the ap. Sounds like he just flashed stock back and then sold it. However, if he told you ahead of time that it was not unmarried then you got scammed.
so you paid lets say 300 and another 400 for the unmarry process. So you paid about the same price for a brand new AP.

lets say you spend 40 thousand dollars on developing the fp or ap. whichever you choose. and you have the mentality that once you release it, you're gonna make a **** load of money because its in high demand. then you release it, and people are buying it left and right. but what you fail to realize is that you didnt add the feature to lock it to one ecu. then your customers figure this out, and bam. now you have people running around flashing other people's cars for free or a small street fee. and those people getting flashed for free or for a small fee are the other people who wanted to buy your product but found an easier way to get what they want. now YOU'RE ***'d out of money.
wouldnt you be pissed? i sure as hell would be.
