f23a1 to f23a4
my 98 accord f23a1 died a while ago. i finally came up with the funds to buy a new engine. problem, the engine is a f23a4, the ULEV accord engine. i have been asking around on other forums but noone really has the answer to my question. do i need the ECU from a ULEV accord for my new engine to run or can i use the stock ecu. i really havint found out why the ulev is so diffrent other than a diffrent exhaust manifold and a wide band sensor? i have no idea what a wide band sensor is and if i need to buy one. i love how simple things turn into a pain in the ***
You can't find any other F23A1? or just get a JDM 2.0 F20 SOHC VTEC; sourced from: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/JDM-9...Q5fAccessories

Similar to the F23A1 but different bottom end I guess.

i checked with all the junk yards close to me. i had to get this one from PA. i already paid $650 for it. so its my engine, not going to return it lol. what u said doesnt really answer my question.
no engine swap expert here, but wouldnt the f20 need a different computer? i think the op is tryin to avoid that. the f23a4 i can imagine will has a slighty different fuel map. I dunno though.
From this link, it sounds like this guy swapped the exhaust manifold, even the injectors (just in case), etc. from his F23A1 motor to the newer F23A4 engine so that he could use his original stock ECU.

Also by not having to swap the ECU, no dealer reprogramming is necessary due to the immobilizer.

yes, the wiring harness is the same. i know for a fact the exhaust manifold is diffrent but thats about it as far as what i know thats diffrent lol. im thinking im just going to put it in and see what happens
Yeah, since you paid for it already I guess there's no turning back. lol but then again, there's only one way to find out and its to throw it in there and face with whatever is in the way such as wiring issue, etc.
I just saw this on here. I was the one that did the swap on hondaaccordforum.com. You have probably figured out everything you needed by now. If I remember correctly, the A4 exhaust manifold has a secondary O2 sensor, therefore I believe the harness is different, hence the need to swap the manifold off the A1. Also, potential ecu problems due to a more restrictive manifold made this the most logical solution. The car that I did the swap in has been running smooth ever since, with over 20,000 miles put on it.
