ecu and turbo question.

Default ecu and turbo question.

hey everyone, been out of this game for a while. I have a 96 civic dx (D16Y7) what ecu would i need to get for the obd1 conversion being that my engine is not equiped with Vtec? Still a P28 or a different one? (I will be turboing it eventually just want to get everything on paper first)

ALSO, whats the best way to clean a turbo, pulled one off of a 96 saab 9000 in the junkyard (i assume its a t25) and have started taking it apart, and just wanted to know the best way to clean all of the buildup on it?

The best option for you if you are converting the car to OBD1 is to also switch intake manifolds and IACV in the process. You can go with any OBD1 D15/16 intake manifold or a manual 96+ Y8 intake manifold, which both accept the 2-wire IACV.

The OBD1 ecu can only control a 2-wire IACV, and your Y7 is equiped with a 3-wire IACV that the OBD1 ecu cannot control. If you switch it will allow you to actually use a 2 wire IACV on your setup, which will make driving the car much nicer.

You can use any OBD1 chipped ECU for your setup. The cheapest would be a chipped P06 ecu since it is a non-vtec ecu.
