By "plastic piece" you mean the lower timing cover, right? Yes, you do have to take the crankshaft pulley off when you remove that. Have fun! You need to have someone put the car in 5th and stand on the brakes while you try to get the bolt loosened. Good luck!

why does it have to be in fifth?
and also, why do you need to step on the brakes?

So that the pulley doesn't spin when you try to loosen it off. 5th makes the wheels hardest to turn.

you might be able to turn the air presure on you compresor up... I used a 1 inch impact to get mine off... If you cant get it off with air, try puting the jack handle over the wrachet to get more tourqe

Good luck

dude, if you have a compressor and dont have a 3/4 inch impact gun, just go rent it. itll be like 10 bucks, ask them for a socket too. The gun I used was a 3/4 inch drive with about 600 lbs tq -- the damn bolt came off like it was butter. U just need more power

ok, what are you using? a huge ratchet and (i forgot the size) mm socket??

if you are using this, get a 4 foot breaker bar (torque bar)

just get like a metal pipe that's a wide enough diameter that will extend the neck of the ratchet so you have more torque into the crank nut you are trying to remove.

take the wheel off put the ratchet on the bolt and get a jack handle or a big bar have someont hit the brakes so the pully wont spin stand on the bar use quick solid hits or just get a bouncing going them when u get kinda of a little bounce just push real hard and fast

ya, the ratchet will not snap with alot of torque being pulled on it slowly.

put the car on the ground, brace a breaker bar against the front of the motor mount. Then put it in first gear, push it backwards with the clutch in, and once you get some speed, pop the clutch.

ok this is very simple, first take off the wheel, put the car on jack stands, put trans. in neutral. Take off your flywheel cover and jam a big flat head screwdriver in between the flywheel teeth and trans. housing. Hit the screwdriver a couple of times to make sure it is jammed in there good. Now get a 1/2 ratchet or breaker bar with a 3/4 socket, put it on the crank pulley. Use a piece of pipe over the ratchet for more leverage, crank on that **** as hard as you can (to the left) have a friend help you or use your legs. It will come off for sure, as long as the flywheel is jammed with the screwdriver. Now the crank has a little key that the pulley slides onto. Just be sure not to loose that key and line the pulley up with the key when you put it back on.

flywheelcover? what the ****? jam a screwdriver in there? what the **** kind of magic mushrooms are you eating? this is how you really do it
get am impact gunna, im pretty sure its a 17 mm bolt that holds it on ( the pully)
( i am assuming that the car is in the air, and all the belts have been removed)
1. tranny in neutral
2. impact w/ the 17mm and take it off, ( don't lose the little key, its a square piece
of metal)
3. With the bolt off wiggle the pulley to take it off ( don't lose the little key, its a
square piece of metal)
4. Then to get the timing cover off, there is a bolt behind the pulley, and one to the
left of it, along with 2 at the top....DO NOT TOUCH ANY OTHER BOLTS! ONE IS A 14MM AND THIS IS YOUR TENSIONER TO YOUR TIMING BELT, YOU LOOSEN THIS AND YOU ARE FUCKED, U GET TO RE-ALIGN YOUR CAMS AND RE TIME YOUR MOTOR!
5. take off the cover and pull out the screw, reverse steps to but back togetther
(but when you tighten the crank pulley, put the tranny in gear)

I think step two was where the problem existed.

The flywheel trick works good. If you ever have had a crank pulley bolt that really really really won't come off, you'd know that this is almost the only way to do it.

I've had some that we cranked on with the 800ft lb 3/4" impact for literally about 10 min straight with torch heat, and they still don't budge.

I don't use a screw driver, but instead, take the flywheel cover off. I take a piece of steel (about 1" by 4") with a whole in each end. Put a bolt through the steel piece, and bolt it to the tranny case. Put another bolt through the other end, and stick in through one of the holes in the flywheel. You may have to turn it to get it to all line up, but when you're done, your flywheel is locked, your motor is locked, and you're all set. Get a 1/2drive or larger breaker bar, put a pipe on it, and you're set.
