Default car idles funny - please help!!!

The idle on my Y8 is really quite rough. It dips between 600-750 all the time, and when I take it out of gear it drops to like 250, then slowly climbs back off, shaking and making weird vibrations. It runs perfectly smooth when I accelarate, it's just when it sits and when I take it out of gear and coast. Once when it was idling at around 450 it kicked up to 750 and smoothed out. What could be causing this? I think my cam/crank alignment may be off, is there anything else I can check as well?

try retarding your timing to help fix it, it might help.

Yeah see, I think the cam may be a tooth off, so that could be the problem, right??

Thanks for the help Tortex... Also, when I drove it home from work at like 1:00am it was running pretty well - the idle didn't dip, though it was still a teensy bit rough. It was great compared to earlier in the day. I fiddled with the cam gear and it didn't help, same with timing, but I'll check my vacuum lines and idle adjustment screw as well. I think I may do a valve adjustment too.

How do you check the evac and coolant temperature sensors, and why would the CTS affect the idle?
