driving home from work and all the power went out. could it be the alt?

driving home from work and all the power went out. could it be the alt?
i was driving home from work and i noticed my radio all of a sudden shut off the my clock. lucky i made it home but now the cars not starting at all not even cranking. could it be the alt?
please your help would be appreciated.

1. is there any power left in the battery
2. was the the battery light on
3. it can be starter if it has power and isn't cranking
4. if you can get it started and battery light is on, then alternator is bad
