Default DC5 transmission problem

I have the type s 6 speed tranny and something is wrong with third gear...

Sometimes when i am just driving normally and shift from second to third, it will pop out of third before i get on the gas. It never grinds it just pops out. When i really get on it its totally fine. I dont know if its cause i shift so fast or if its because im at 8k on the tach. I know there is a sweet spot where you can shift without a clutch around 3-4k cause i have done it before, but it shouldnt be able to come out of gear on its own...

Any suggestions?

i take it your fairly new to the K tranny world. its a problem for everybody! i believe they still have recalls going on to get that problem fixed.

Everytime you shift into third you gotta make sure it's in past the notchy feel.

Good to hear in a way lol. Ive only had the car a week and was hoping i didnt buy somthing with serious problems. I searched for weeks before i found a bone stock, un-molested type-s.

So you were right, i am new to the k series. Had an eg civic for 9 years. So what type of recall are you talking about? Am i gonna get a free fix for my 2003 type-s?

Thanks for the info!

unfortunately, since it was only a TSB out, they probably won't fix it. you can try to go to a dealership and see if they will pay for part of it or even do it for free since a lot of cars had that problem.

i went to a dealership to try to get them to fix my second gear which is EXTREMELY notchy even at low RPM's. they refused to fix it saying "they couldn't reproduce the problem". My problem is intermittent and the ****ing TSB says it's intermittent, which means it doesn't happen all the time, but they were too retarded to understand what intermittent meant.

Yeah that sweet spot is in every gear shift. As long as the rev match is perfect, I mean absolutely perfect, then you can get in or out of gear without the clutch and past the synchros safely. Some drag racers swear by it and do it all the time; but it's not worth it to try for that "sweet" spot cause you are bound to miss everyone in a while IMO. Blown clutch a lot cheaper than blown synchro.

sweet spot does exists, but you never should do it. that makes an already finicky trans worse

They might not fix it free of charge but I'm pretty much you can still purchase the recall components to get it fixed.
