Removing and installing front lower ball joint
I searched and cannot find a write up on how to remove a front lower ball joint or how to install a new one, can anyone help me out with a link or describe to me how to do it?
Rent some tools from a part store like Autozone or Pep Boys. Get the Ball joint removal/installation kit with the Honda supplement kit. I left the knuckle on the car with only the upper ball joint hooked up. The kit is similar to a c clamp so when you get the kit, take some pics and I will tell you what pieces you need to use. The Honda ball joints fits the best.
Look at my last post on this thread to see how to pop the lower ball joint from the control arm.

Or u could just beat the old ball joint out with a hammer and then find a socket to fit the around the thick part of the new ball joint and put the socket over the new ball joint on the back side and hammer it back in.
personaly i use a tie rod seperator for removal, just make if your ball joint has a square nut lookin piece of metal welded on it under the control are that you put the seperator between that and the control arm not the cast housing and the nut. for installing sice it is tapered once you got it going it willseat itself and stay put. I would use the aforementioned socket and hammer technique
I just did this yesterday on my car. I had to rent the ball joint press at autozone for $99. Yes you heard me, $99!! but I got it all back as soon as I returned it. I took the whole thing off the car so it made it easier to remove. I couldnt figure how to use the tool to remove it because it didnt work. maybe thats why someone above stated that you should ask for the tool with the Honda supplement kit. Whatever that is... Anyways I ended up using a really big mallet and started pounding away at the ball joint. After 30 mins of pounding it finally came off. I lubed the inside up with wd40 before putting in the new ball joint. Now this is when the ball joint press tool worked best. It was so easy to use and went right in without any problems.
If you rent the autozone tool be careful when youre pressing the new joint in. The tool isnt quite right (hence the honda supplement) for the ball joint so the first time I accidentally smashed the stud on the new ball joint. Just make sure there is enough room inside the sleeve of the tool for the stud to fit into so it doesnt hit anything. as for the rest I agree just pull the knuckle off, and smash the old ball joint with a hammer until it comes out.
