hi everyone ,

im having aproblem with my horn that only seems to occur while im driving!! the horn does not respond as normal as it would , i have to press severeal places on the st.wheel and it might respond eventually....

however , while parked , it works at the slightest touch !

note :
break lights are working just fine , and when the horn is not responding i can clearly hear the relay sound with every press...

so what is it that i need to do? coz i dont know where to look in the first place...!

 

The actual horns are located behind the front bumper if you want to check their connection.

 

Maybe you're just driving really quickly in reverse, and can't hear the horn.

Yes...that is pretty easy though. Find a DIY for bumper removal. I can have mine off and back on in less than 4 minutes.

 

Do you have one of those clip-removing tools? I need to get one, its much more difficult with a screwdriver.

 

eh, it's easy enough with a thin flathead. i'd take off the bumper and check the horn connections, and if everything's fine then take off the wheel airbag and check the connection there.

 

Really? I can usually get one side up, but it causes the other side to jam. I'll then go to pop the other side out, and the side I originally had out pops back into place.

 

yeah, it only took me a few minutes to remove the bumper when my horns fried (i have hella supertones). i've put together a few cars over the years and never used any fancy clip removing tool . you'd probably have an easier time with clips if you pop each side out only a little bit at a time.

 

I had a problem with my Si's horn too. It was too quiet! See attached photo for my replacement

Removing the bumper is fairly easy. I would use two small flat head screwdrivers and pry from two ends of those clips. I can't stand those things! You'll need a 5mm allen (or 6mm, I can't remember) to remove the two bolts under the radiator cover, a phillups for each screw in the fender wells, and then all of those other clips.

The bumper actually snaps into place under the headlights. You'll have to tug on the bumper fairly agressively to get it to come off. When putting it back on, just bump into place with your hand.

Don't forget the two (one of each side) 10mm bolts that are on the bottom right in front of each wheel.

 

Another suggestion if you feel it is a safety issue, which it is because the car won't pass inspection, take it to the dealer and have them take a look at it. Beats DIY when you don't know what you are doing. It's apart of safety equipment in the car so they should check with no charge to you.

 

OP do you have any aftermarket electrical mods? it sounds like the problem could be a short to power in the circuit. long story short, take it to the dealer and have them check it out. electrical diy maintenance sucks
