anyone know what kind of MPG i would get with a OBD-0 B16 and LS cable tranny??
hello, im wondering if anyone can give me some ball park gas mileage figures for a 1989 civic DX hatchback with a OBD-0 JDM B16 and a integra LS cable tranny. i have noticed that the 5th gears in the LS tranny and the DX tranny are about the same length. i get 42 on the freeway with the D15, im wondering what the B16 will do with the same gearing.
B16 has less displacement than an Integra's B18.
Both of these will benefit mileage.
However, don't go off of gearing for guessing at mileage. My 91 Integra LS and my 2000 GSR both get 28mpg freeway, despite the fact that I'm running nearly 4k rpm in the GSR cruising around 80mph (both are 5 speeds).
Now, with the lower torque B16 being discussed here, it would probably benefit more from being allowed to rev up while cruising, instead of being bogged down at a low rpm. I think you'd get better mileage with a B16 or GSR transmission instead of an LS tranny.
Gas pedal position plays a much bigger role in mpg than rpm.

i asked op brother and he said potato
my guess is that it should be better than 29 and it depends and what ecu you have driving conditions etx

89'crx with jdm obd0 b16a with b16 trans(short gearing) around 22/25mpg, with chipped nippon ecu 20/22mpg, just my estimation, with this chip ecu vtec comes early and keep dumping fuel when vtec engages, so it would be worst mpg on the highway, 4500 rpm vtec kicks in, 5th gear, 4500rpm, around 70mph.
this thread is full of win!
noone here an effectively tell you what your mileage will be. it all has to do with what car your using, what your driving style is, what condition the motor is in, your wheel and tire choice, what tune you have...if any. even the type of gas you use.
there is too many factors.. we can tell you roughly what we think you should be getting.
and with an LS trans... should be better than 30MPG.
to the guy who is not getting better than 40MPH on his tune... you need to shoot your tuner.
and i dont know where you got the info that integras only get 24-30mpg... im sorry.... theres something wrong here.
and anybody here... ANYONE.... if you have a leadfoot... you will never see the proper mileage. if you think you can race everything off the line including granny in her ford galaxy.... then you will never see the proper mileage.
ive driven my civic with a turbo and gotten 40MPG before. its possible... it was a stock D series with 12PSI of boost. made 240WHP.. i drove that car like every day back and forth to work. 40MPG all week long.
