Default Problem with 1st to 2nd shift, some say synchros can anyone clarify?

So I recently acquired a '95 Del Sol SI and i've noticed sometimes when shifting from 1st to 2nd at a higher rpm (6-7k) that even when i have the clutch fully depressed i'll still grind gears. The popular answer i've heard is that it's the synchros and it's because their old. Can anyone further explain this synchro issue or anything that can be done to help it. I've heard a short shifter can help resolve the issue.

Yeah it sounds like the synchros in your tranny have gone bad, but I don't think that installing a short shifter will solve your problem. Basically your looking at gettin' a new tranny, but I had a similar problems with my gears a while back. I drained my tranny and when I refilled it with fluid I added tranny honey. It's definently not a permanent fix and in your case might not even change anything, but it's definently worth 5.00 shot before you get in the market for a tranny.
