B16a to Type R?
I have an 89 CRX with a b16a and i want a type R. I havent decided if i will get more power by investing in the b16 or just jump to a R. i want to get the car to 11s. Now a little history on the current block. It was installed 2002 ish it sat for 4 years before i bought it. The trough out bearing is toast because of the clutch ive been told and the wiring needs to be redone, and it eats coolant.
Any particular reason you want a type r motor? I mean besides the obvious?
If you want 11's just turbo the b16 motor, get some rods and pistons and be done. You will end up spending less on that setup than the type R.

as far as the wiring, dont worry. you will end up using the wiring that is already in your car. the throwout bearing, is that coming from your current motor or the type r? in any case a motor swap is always a good time to do a clutch job.
^ You have to realize that a b18c5 has ~20 more ft lbs of torque and almost 30 hp compared to a 1st gen b16 at the flywheel of course.
One of my friends has a b18c5 in an EK hatch and runs a consistent 14.0. I am however unaware of what his '60 times are. You can see they are pretty comparable.

If you're looking to run 11's then you better be prepared to spend extra money...sure you can turbo it but it won't last as long. All motor is harder but possible but more exspensive. No matter what you're gonna start to do damage to your tranny in a hurry
i really don't care as long as its a good stable build. i want the type r because i had a gsr in my last civic and loved it i can only imagine what that would be like in a crx. the trough out bearing is in the b16 that is currently in the car it has a drag stage 3 clutch (and hate it/was in car when purchased)i was told with upgraded clutches that's a common occurrence. i don't want that hard core of a clutch in my car so that wont be a issue. The real main reason why i want the up grade is like i said before it was sitting for 4 years and instead of replacing all the crap that has gone bad just slap a new block in and call it a day
If you want to run 11's you will not be able to use a stock clutch and with a cable trans, you will feel the difference between a high clamping pressure plate and a stock one, unlike a hydro trans where it's ran by fluid and still gives the stock feel.
So if you are worried about running a stiff clutch, then you may want to rethink things.

I miss spoke on my last post I don't have a problem with stiff clutches its just with the one i have destroying trough out bearings causing this embarrassing squeal every time i accelerate. If it wasnt for that id me happy.
just boost the 1.6. no point in putting all that money towards an R motor because you're going to have to build it no matter what in order to touch 11's.
