What is this? New Turbo.
Saw this when I took my turbo off to work on the return line. Any ideas as to what it is? This is the turbine side if the picture isn't clear. It's also on the DP flange. It seems to be some orange liquid. Oil? Assembly lube? Why would oil be in these spots on a brand new turbo?
Since CO2 and H2O vapor make up the majority of the exhaust gasses, it's probably just some minor rust, iron ions (disolved iron), and condensation. It's fairly normal for an iron part in an exhaust.
It doesn't really seem like rust. As for consistency, idk how to really explain it as it has hardened but can be chipped away...idk if that makes sense. Does oil turn that color when it touches a cast iron piece? My previous turbo blew...Maybe this is residual oil from that. I know every exhaust gasket on the turbo was soaked in oil when it blew. Maybe some was in the mani and got sent through the new one.

Leak as in turbo? I figured it had to be residual oil from the blown turbo that was exhaust mani. This is a poor way to phrase this, but I don't think oil can spew out like that from the motor. And if it was spewing, there would be much more of it. Oil flows pretty easily so if it was getting past somewhere in the motor (valve seals possibly), there would be a lot more of it even after a 10 minute drive.
