Default Hood Pin Question

SO, i just picked up a VIS oem style carbon hood for the low low price of a case of miller lite and a dozen wings (literally). However, the problem is it had hood pins in it, and i am no fan of hood pins.

I was looking at the aerocatch hoodpins due to their rather flush mount design. I googled the dimensions and came up with 126mm (4.9") in total length and 69mm (2.7") in width.

I measured the pre-existing hood pins and they are circular and about 2.3" in diameter.

Now, it seems like the aerocatch hood pins will replace the old poopy hood pins barely when it comes to width, the only thing that concerns me is the slight tear-drop design may not cover the width compeltely as it begins to get narrower.

What i am looking for specifically is anyone with experience with the aerocatch fasteners to give me their thoughts on if they would be able to replace the old hood pins. It's hard to say from the picture and if i could get a definite yes or even a definite no, it would save me some time, aggravation and about $100.

Also if anyone has any other suggestions on hood pins similar to the aerocatch i am open for suggestions, i just haven't found any other options yet.

thanks fellers

Something like this maybe? I would just get some type of black hood pins, or make something to put under the type you are looking at.

I have no experience with hood pins, I hate the way they look. In regard to the locks being picked, don't most Carbon Fiber hoods retain the OEM style hood latch? With the cable relocated, and an alarm trigger on the hood, I would think that the locking pins aren't completely necessary.

I was not aware of the style of pins you posted, those look like they will blend in best, and assuming the locks are better, provide some extra security as well.

Edit: here is a carbon fiber set of the pins posted above, made by NRG. http://www.robearracing.com/pd-nrg-r...-universal.cfm

A quick google search answers all

http://www.aerocatch.com/automotive-operating.html

You'll need to cut into the underlying hood support (webbing) to accomodate the aerocatch's depth. I don't think you'll be able to install them until you fill the existing holes in part or entirety.
