Default tach and temp needles jump up and down

90 ef sedan, both my tach and temp needs seems to jump for no particular reason. the RPMs dont fluctuate, its only the needle itself, same thing with the temp...it doesnt run overly hot or anything like that, idles and drives perfectly fine. d16a6 with aftermarket header and NO o2 sensor...old sensor broke off in the stock ex mani.

it can be that your cluster is burnt i had that happen to my crx and it was the back of the cluster had worn through and was grounding out making the temp go up when i hit a bump also too i would get a full tank of gas everytime i hit a bump

i have a bad alternator i found out...my tach drops to 0 when i put the windows down, also when i press on the brake pedal. im sure this is the reason why my tach jumps when im accelerating.

im gonna replace my thermo and burp the rad so im sure that will fix the temp gauge bouncing.

ive got a similar problem on my friends eg, his temp needle just rises when you turn the car on. itll warm up, then after a few mins gradually increases till it maxes out. Its not over heating cause hes got a infrared temp gauge and it reads accurate (150-160). Thought it was the cluster and put mine spare in, same deal. still trying to sort it out.

interesting problem, temp needle jumps up to H whenever i turn on head lights, actually it move up based on how much power i use inside the car haha.

good thing is that i got the alternator prob fixed, the dudes at the shop actually put in a new alternator for free! it was a "better" quality alt i guess but it works fine!

hey just so u know i fixed my electrical problem, i ADDED a ground to the valve cover to chassis. there was already one there but i added another one.

i thought of this after scraping against a speed bump...my lights would brighten during the scraping then i thought, wait a minute, my exhaust piping is touching the oil pan which is grounding the motor...so sure enough i added the ground and it works better than ever before!

no more jumping needles or anything.

I have a similar issue. It's 91 DX. When I turn on my turn signals or high beams, my temp gauge will fluctuate up and down with the blinker or go all the way up with the high beams. It's really strange. I figure it's wiring but don't know where to start to look.

that was my problem, try to add a ground from valve cover to the chassis. leave your headlights on while you do it and you will probably see them get brighter.

IIRC there isn't a ground there. I'll add one and see if that helps...
Thx
