Default ABS worth it

Looking at getting my first civic and I'm borrowing some of the money from my dad so he has a say in what I get. I live in MN where is snows and rains a whole lot. All of the civic ex's with ABS are considerably higher than the ones without. Just wondering if it's worth it for the extra money? Also can ABS be swapped to cars without ABS? I'd be doing a 5 lug swap in the future anyways so it's not a huge deal to me. I don't mind pumping the brakes lol Thanks guys and any input is greatly appreciated!

I found the information on it being possible to add ABS. But does anyone think it's worth it?

Iv'e heard from a few people that ABS isn't worth it on the civic! Good to know that others feel the same and have tested and proved it. That should make finding a car so much easier! Thanks guys.

Hay, fellow minnesotan
I had a 94 Civic lx Sedan with abs for a couple winters, the abs didn't work though >_< drove it in the winter in terrible storms and its fine, its pretty scarry though, you glide over snow because the tires are so small ;S almost hit the side wall on a bridge because my car kept pulling to the side.

was my first car and i have never had an accident.
now i have 93 civic dx as of a few months ago and I dont know how that is going to be because its just lower by default compared to that sedan i had.

Civic's in minnesota are Pieces of TRASH, all rusty everywhere (my out of state civic ftw)... good luck finding one. And people have them listed so high on craigslist. I got 3 [good] years out of my civic (school, 120miles of commuting a week, other job), only replacing the muffler, and tires( regular maintenance stuff ..plugs etc.).

ABS is for emergencies, when you have to avoid something, but its not amazing when my abs was working.
eh idk.
Only thing i wish i had now is cruse control, but i can live without...

Recall that the purpose of ABS is to allow you to steer while braking. It will not help you stop faster. In fact, it will take you longer to stop with ABS engaged than if you pumped the brakes.

Sounds like its not worth it for the price. For real I was a new driver without it and my winters were fine as long as you drive sanely in the winter, even if that means going below the speed limit when other people think your some old person...

But yeah
Abs allows you to steer as mentioned whilest slamming on the breaks.
Go 40 mph and slam on the breaks and try to avoid an obsticle
Go 40 mph and slam on the breaks and avoid the obsticle with abs
just watch the video for the first minute and a half for an example

Dunno, You decide if its worth it. Eventually it will need sensors replaced or a new computer and it wont work anyway -_-;;

When im driving in the snow I can maneuver my car very well without abs cause I actually have control of the brakes. I can gently press the brakes til I slow down, unlike abs if you press them to a certian point they pulsate causing it to take longer to slow down and on top of that it feels like your car is gonna fall apart and the pedal gets stiff as hell. I personally like to control my own braking, and IMO if you cant drive in the snow/rain without control how hard you mash on the brakes you shouldnt be driving period.

Safety first. If you have the time, I don't see why not.
