Default Distributor connector

My father bought a new distributor for his 94 del sol SI (D16Z6) with part #31-17404 from advance auto. The little connector fits fine, but he says the bottom (big) connector has a alignment plastic piece on the new dist. harness that doesn't quite go with the old connector. Is this normally something you have to hack off the new dist. connector or is it the wrong dist.... ??

Thanks,
Jason

Pictures? Sometimes the clips are difficult because they have to be cliped together before being installed on the metal retaining tabs.

Made a mistake. The big connector fits. The small 2-pin connector is the one that doesn't fit. It has a plastic 'T' alignment 'thingy' end and the old dist. harness doesn't have it....

Any suggesstions ?

Jason

Here is a diagram drawing my dad did.... It seems like the new connector should go into the engine harness, but it won't. And the old dist. did not have this T connector.... He is scared he might break it. He has pushed real hard and he says it still will not go in.

So theres a little piece of white plastic in both the new distributor plug and the engine harness plug? remove the one from the engine harness, its supposed to stay inside the distributor plug, for whatever reason it didn't. Just grab it with a pair of needle nose pliers, it will come right out.

When you disconnected the harness from the old dizzy, the "T" thing broke in your harness. So now when you try to plug in your harness it won't go in because the slot for the T is already taken by the broken T.

If the broken "T" sticks out, you can remove it with some pliers.
If the broken "T" is deep inside the connector... You could always remove the one on the dizzy.

I had that very same problem 2 days ago.
I couldn't figure out why the plug would not go in until I realised the "T" was broken deep inside the harness plug. I took some long nose pliers, ripped out the T from the dizzy connector and now it it connects just fine.

Just talked to my father. That is EXACTLY what happened. The other 'T' is stuck in the harness. Too deep to get out so he just ripped the other one out of the dist. .... Thanks again everyone. He can now enjoy the weather with the top out....
