Bending the rules: Street driven race cars...
Everybody here knows it's easy to race a street car.. You go to the track with your moms Accord and twenty bucks in hand... But it's quite different when you want to street around in a race car: Twenty Dollars won't get you far at the local Safety/IM station. Even if you CAN squeeze by county laws, local track officials have a different idea of what safety equiment is.
What I want to know is how most of the HT members deal with each side of legality. I assume that you all are streching rules to the limit, but not breaking them.

I guess we all start out with the basics. you know, simple parts and then you decide to do some weight reduction.
in my case, I jus took of the basic interior, spare tire, etc.
Next thing you know, the bumper reinforcements are gone and the bumper is clipped on with a DZUS fastener.
Of course that wasnt enough, so the catalytic converter is tossed.
the rear hatch is replaced with a full lexan piece, no fiberglass.
rest of the underdash is taken out except the dash and the steering column.
Little bolts here and there are taken out.
The doors are cut and replaced with lexan windows.
Thats as far as I got. I think I pretty much stretched out the Street legality of it.
I have even got pulled over with the Lexaned doors and the cop just laughed and gave me a ticket.
He even gave a thumbs up on the Hatch.
I guess I was lucky during those 4 yrs. But they never actually mention the hatch, they trip out more that I just have one seat in the car.
but then again, I think the last yr or so has changed so much that Previous street racing laws get a misdemeanor and they now are Felonies in Southern Cali.

So if u get a felony for street racing, does that count as a "Strike"? that would suck if u get 3 strikes and get convicted LIFE for racing!
ya some law just passed here in certain places where street racing is big.
Felony for street racing and already a Misdemeanor for spectators and cruisers.

My car is soo illegal...and in southern california if you get caught...you have to goto the ref which means smog which means removing all the parts which arnt legal.
So dont give the police a reason to pull you over....so i dont street race, i dont speed, i have both my lic plates on my car, you get the idea.
My friend had a jdm b20/vtec turbo in his civic...got pulled over because of no front plate..the cop saw the gauges and was like "pop the hood son". The cop didnt have a clue what anything was but he did say "i have no idea what all this stuff is..but im sure its not legal". My friend now has his b20 in the garage and is cruisin' again with the sohc because he had to swap back in the stock engine so he could pass california REF board.
PAIN IN THE ***!! California is a pain in the *** sometimes. Stupid laws.
Its all fun until you get pulled over.liam
Never got hood popped, or catalytic checked.
If you pulled over a car like this... wouldnt it trigger "Violiations!" in your head?
luckily i never really got any major ones, the most was a muffler fiz it ticket. haha.
its funny too, i didnt have a glove box so I had kept my insurance and registration underneath the cluster cover which wasnt bolted down anyways.

I got no immisions,, basically i slap a sticker on and its good to go. Naturally i never overlook bad brakes or tires though. As far as everything else, side impact beams, bumpers, cats, mufflers, windsheild wipers, windsheild squirters, seatbelts, or lexan that is behind the driver it doesnt bother me. I tore everything out of my car. Ive never weighed it but i can lift the rear of the car up by myself and spin in around.
