so your 5th gear stopped working and you didnt inspect and drain the fluid, AND continued driving it and are NOW wondering why its doing weird stuff? Your buddy already told you the most important step you should have checked already, yet you didnt. instead of checking you took the time to make this post and ask our opinion. Whats wrong with you?

PS your tranny is fine it is supposed to do that

No offense but it takes about 2 minutes to remove the fill plug from the tranny to check the level. it takes longer to start up the computer and post. Im not trying to be an *** but you already got good advice. I thought it would be common sense to drain it to inspect for metal after you had 5th stop working.the trannys are usually reliable, but not if they have no oil in them.( or parts of 5th gear or a fork floating around in them)

I just bought a 92 integra rs with a YS1 5 speed tranny, and i amy new to manual trannys, learned to drive it just fine, but when the engine and tranny is cold i have no problems, it goes through all gears perfectly, but once the engine/tranny get to operating temps, the 2nd gear slightly grinds going into gear but not all the time, the 3rd gear does the grinding noise all the time once engine temp gets to normal operating temp, when cold it doesnt.

i know automatics use atf fluid, im not sure the manual does or not, i dont want to keep driving it and end up damaging the tranny, is there fluid in the ys1 tranny and if so how can i check the fluid level and or flush it out and refill the tranny, if someone can take pictures on where and which holes are the drain/refill holes, i need help, im new to manual trannies...

if you can help, email the pictures to my email,

at adamnfs@live.com ,

thank you in advance...

Search is your answer and don't thread jack someone elses. Don't make a new thread either since the information is all over the website.

Back on the OP's problem. You were probably low on fluid and caused it to grind and break apart. If its just a LS transmission junk it but if its a B16 transmission you can rebuild it for cheap. Cable B16s are hard to come by when you need it for cable tranny.

jeez..what the trans ever do to you? besides drive you to work....5th going out isnt anything specific to this trans, just check the fluid. let us know what you find. bottom line is you need a new trans. but when it does go it may take other parts with it.

89fodo... You say you work 7 days a week and you have not time, butit would be easier to check/chnge your trans fluid than to replace your trans.
