Default system in the trunk

hey there guys I just needed some help with a system I am want to do in a 1998 Prelude. Is it possible to have 2 12" Kicker L7's in a ported box in a prelude? I just got off the phone with a car audio shop and they said there is not way. The only thing They can do is a sealed box.

You can do whatever you want with a system. Open the trunk and remove the carpet and stuff and see the space you have. It's just a matter of getting in there and doing it.

If this is for a daily driver, you need to rethink your priorities. Your car will become a 2 seater convertible, because you already don't have a back seat and you're about to lose the entire trunk. Plus, to fit a box like that in there, you'll never see your spare tire again.

2 kickers in a sealed box with the proper amp, will be more bass than you will know what to do with, I have a single Boston 10" in a .5cu sealed box, and it has plenty of thump behind it.

I have phoned a couple of car audio shops and they have said that the ONLY way you can get 2 12" ported box is if you take out your spare tire

I have read everything before I posted. Im just telling you what they have said to me. Wont it also be kind of hard since the wheel fender is also inside of the trunk?

The entire point is, you need to drop the idea of fitting two 12s in your trunk. It's ridiculous overkill, not to mention impractical and heavy as ****.

Unless this is merely a show car.

I had two 12's in my trunk and I made all the caprices on 24's with 4 12s roll their windows up. its overkill on the lude I removed my set up to fit 4 6x9's in the back window. I now have sound quality plus interior bass. trust me bro you'll miss your trunk once its gone. forget the 12's the weight makes the *** skid on hard turns. I have a 4th gen though...I had 2 jl 1200's and a boss 2 channel 2400 amp.

whether you race or not depending how long youve driven your car you'll hate the change the weight does to your ride.

Go to the audio section, since you're not going to listen to any of us.

Just go with a single 12 or an 8 on each side or something. Have you ever heard a setup like that before? You will honestly NEVER turn it up to the level those will max at. If its just for pure pleasure you will be fine with a properly set up single. Have you ever even heard what amped 6x9's are capable of? I think you will be surprised at how overkill this will end up being.

whats lame is that the OP would rather lay on the phone with overpriced car audio shops all day than go out in alley behind his trailer and pop the trunk of his car.

if you really want to do it, go do it.

done this install before....

waste of a lot of money. it is very possible. i did an install on the exact components in a 5th gen lude about 2 years ago. now you are being told correctly it cant be done...with kickers ported box. if you have a shop build you a box.. it can be done rather easily. but it got rid of ALL usable space in the trunk. it wasnt the best design due to space limitations but it worked and thumped hard.
like everyone has already said... its way overkill. ive done plenty of cars with a simple setup that can do some damage to a lot of egos. simply talking from experience not bragging. if you want a decent sound for an acceptable price go with 2 12"cvrs in a ported bix with about 600 to 800 amps from a decent amp manufacturer(eg NOT sony) and you will be amazed.

I was thinking Kicker L7, Fi Q, and Kicker CRX. The Kicker needs about 3cuft and the FI and CRX need about 2.25-2.5 cuft. Is it possible with other subs??

Why are you so dead set on a ported box? Have you ever heard a good sub in a sealed box? One of those kickers will only need a 1c/f sealed box. And like I said already, my Boston 10" in a .5ft sealed box sounds better than alot of 12's.

Ported boxes generally sound like **** compared to a sealed box with the correct air space, that's just my opinion of course. I have 2x 12" JL W3 in a sealed box, used up 90% of the trunk and was way louder than I needed. If I were to do it again(and I probably will) I'll go with a single 12" in a small'ish sealed box and have some trunk left.

Well the trunk is useless to me since im 19 years old and never even use it. One question, ported boxed generally sound better on low end notes and sealed box are a all round note box?

There are many quantifiable sonic differences between ported and sealed that are beyond the scope of a quick reply. Keep in mind that the lower you go in frequency, the more cabin gain you will get in your small car. This is why even a small sealed sub in your small car can have good response down low. A ported sub can easily be much louder near its tuning frequency, and can be tricky to equalize with other frequencies (again, due to cabin gain). If you want sound quality and you want easy, go sealed. If you want boom or want a challenge (for that sound quality), go ported.

i vote lock this useless thread.

i don't care if he decides to listen to Honda-Tech over the "professional" shops in his neck of the boon docks, but it's like kronn said, he won't even listen.

the answer's been given, it can be done but you will lose a lot of room.

stop trying to convince him about sound quality or the better choice to make or what not, since he does not care. he just wants a ported box in his trunk so that he can roll around his hood playing his music obnoxiously loud thinking it makes him look amazingly cool so he can hit on all the fly honeys jockin his whip he spent his entire life savings on.
