'88 civic tach wire??????HELP!?!?!?!?!
Could someone please tell me which wire to splice my tachwire into in the harness? I thought it was the blue one but I spliced it and the tach still doesn't work.....hella frustrated!!!!!!!btw, it's a 4door too. thx
if you tag the blue wire outside the dizzy, you get the signal before the Ignitor and it doesn't work with some aftermarket tachs. run your wire straight to the coil itself inside the dizzy.
ummm...sorry I'm not that good with wiring and stuff and could use a litttle more explanantion please. I only saw one blue wire and I spliced into it but it doesnt work..it comes out of 2 dizzys right? Does it matter which dizzy I splice into? Where is the coil at inside the dizzy???thx
by dizzy i mean distributor.
you'll have to pull the distributor cap off and look inside
the coil is #15 in this pic, there are 2 wires going to it and where the wires connect the coil has a (+) and a (-) etched on it.
You need to figure a way to get your tach wire into the distributor without causing any holes that water could leak in to and attach it to the (-) side.
Edit: or beter yet, get an Si gauge cluster and plug it right in to your dash without running any wires under your hood:

also, i found out that the tach wire is in a harness that plugs into the fuse box. its the dark blue wire with 2 silver stripes on it (for me and my 89 civic). i'll try to get the pin number later when i have access to my manual.

thanx i got the tach workin...i just spliced into the blue one coming out the distributor and that did the trick...so now i just need to splice into one of the wires going into either hvac, radio, or cigarette??Is it a certain color or is there just one wire?????
Edit: or beter yet, get an Si gauge cluster and plug it right in to your dash without running any wires under your hood: i believe this will give a VSS error code.

for me i just cut the illum. wire going to the ashtray and ran it to my tach. i don't have much interior, so i didn't need the illumination going to the ashtray.
to find the ilumination wire just go to the fuse box you will see 4 male spade terminals i beleive 2nd from left is parking lights, only down fall of this is that it will iluminate at full brightness at lss times the lights are on, you could get a resistor or even a varible resistor at radio shack and put that in the wire and set it to a good brightness an hide it under the dash or put it some where you could adjust like in a blanke pannel.
YYYYYEEESSSSSSSS
!!!!I'm hella happy, the tach is workin perfectly and i got all the wires in place even illumination......thx for the help guys
