SRS issue EJ8
So my SRS light came on, code 1-1. I have diagnosed it to be the clockspring/cable reel. Here's the rub...the EX/Si clockspring lists for about $350 while the the other models list for $43. What the hell??? What's the difference? Speed control is the only thing I can think of, if that's the case I can do without it for $300! Anyone else?
Ebay has a few right now for 96-2000 Civics for under $50. It is a popular salvage item.
Two choices each seem to come up for the DX and LX 96 Civic, to name two, and like you say, the price difference is huge. E.g. see http://www.bkhondaparts.com/billkay/...h&hidIrno=|002
Like you suspect, my best guess is one has cruise control wiring and the other does not.
When I added cruise control to my 93 Civic DX, I bought an LX clock spring at a junkyard for $15 or so last year. There was another junkyard that would not sell any SRS parts (liability concerns), so you might want to ask the yard you use whether they sell SRS parts. Take airbag precautions as given in the manual. I remember one yard where the airbag was fully intact.
