Question Need help very badly
Okay guys ive talked to a few people about this i just recently found out that the rsx type s ive had for 4 years has a k20a3 head and block who ever owned it befor me did a cheap swap what a retard anyway it still has the a2 computer/ecu,intake manifold, and tranny. the reason im sayin this is i was looking to buy a VAFC2 controller and i was just wondering if bein i have a3 motor an a2 computer and yes i checked the manufactuer code on the ecu and its a a2.if it would throw the VAFC2 controller of an pretty much make it difficult to tune any suggestions.....Another thing is can anyone explaine why i can still vtec if i have the 2lobe a3 head but the a2 computer thank you for any feedback
VAFC controller is worthless imo, save and buy kpro, then tune...but the way your motor is all fux0red up i would take it to a tuner asap and see what they suggest or you can pm my tuner on here, his s/n is d-rob
Thank you both
QFT
ya i was thinking bout keeping the a3 long block and getting a z1 head so i can go turbo.....but it still boogles my mind how i have vtec? oh well thanks you guys for the replies back

Why would you get the z1 head? Just seems like a lot of extra work for a motor that you're just going to boost. An extra 20hp or so, if you do it the "right way" isn't going to mean anything but more traction issues when you go boost.
Something is fishie here.....I do not think a a3 motor would run on a a2 ecu unless it was kpro'ed and had an a3 program downloaded into it. My reasons for thinking this......
1) way different compression ratios = very different timing advance map.
2) if you were running a a3 motor, you would be running on one intake valve per cyclinder till 5800rpm. I am pretty sure the car would be undriveable from 4000rpm to 5800 rpm.

so OP you have thought this whole time you have had a a2? you have six gears? and 2lobe cams? have you ever hit 8300 rpm?
if it is kpro'ed his redline would be 8600 and it is possible that whoevee had the car before hand got kpro and then never got it tuned, which is dumb but ep3 ecu rekey could be possible
Ill make sure i post pics within the week but i can promise you and youll see when the pics come up that i have a3 block an a3 head....it still has the 6 speed tranny...it will go all the way to 8200 and the vtec kicks in hard around 4900-5200 and it also for sure has the a2 computer marked very clearly PRB no one i talk to can get this figured out....dont think it has been k proed would be nice though
any other suggestions
any other suggestions
and im pretty sure all the internals are stock but everyone is right i shouldnt be able to vtec like i do with the 2 lobe a3 head very mind boggling
Are you sure it's just not tuned really crappy so that it's sluggish until peak torque kicks in which for the EP3 peak torque is about 5k RPM's. Then they just tuned it to rev limit at 8200?
That ecu has to have reflash or kpro'd. Ur vtec engagement point is too low for stock. What is it like 5600 on the ep? The rsx-s is 5800 on stock ecu
