You're optimistic. He doesn't know how to tell if it engages and you are thinking he can go swap solenoids?

What does it mean when there's oil seeping from the solenoid? Vtec is new to me lol I love this car an have major plans when money allows but for now just tryin to learn the basics on how vtec works thanks for all the help. If vtec isn't workin will it hurt the motor at all? I would think not but you never kno lol I've heard dohc motors vtec kick in sounds like a raspy noise but never knew if mine did

single cam vtec is about as effective as farting while running. its not very noticable (more noise then anything if you have an intake) and possibly a slight pick up in RPM. i wouldnt worry about it too much.

thats just a typical honda leak man. i have had my b16 head apart and resealed many times and it still manages to leak even with a new gasket and honda bond. as long as it is just a small seep i would not worry about it too much.

pull the code for the CEL you are getting. that will pretty much tell you what is wrong down to the point.

next time it pops on DONT turn off your car. you will need a paperclip to loop the ecu and pull the code. there should be a green plug on the right hand side of your dash tucked up under the glovebox... that is where you loop it. put each end of the paperclip in each hole. you will need to watch the CEL and count flashed. short flashes are "1" and a long flash is "10". add them all up to get the code
