H22a auto complete failer
I was sitting at a light today and had my auto H22a tranny just grid its brains out. No park just constant griding. It worked fine 3 miles earlier. Has anyone had this happen before.
Although it's not common for a tranmission to just die suddenly like that, it does happen. Were you moving the shifter at all before it happened? How long have you had the swap (assuming you have an Accord)?
Why would this have any sort of problem it had 30k on it with Z1 fuild. No D4 light until it started grinding. OB1 tcm. I drove this thing 5.5 miles since I had it. It ran perfect.
For what it's worth, this is what happen, recently, to the transmission in my son's 91. He was stop at a traffic light and when the light changed the car wouldn't move and when he tried to put the car in park he would grind like it was coming apart. Had the car towed home and discovered that one of the CV axle had popped out. The end of the axle after the circle clip grove had been chewed down. The grinding sound did not occur when you put the car in gear only when you tried to put it back in park. Put a new axle in and it was good to go. Not sure where all the metal that was ground off went to, I changed the transmission fluid but didn't find any particles. So far the transmission has been working normally.
When the thing is put in gear the Speed sensor doesn't even work in fact the shift feeling you get form the trans going from P-R-D4 etc feeling is gone. The shifter just moves freely. Crazy I feel something inside went horribly wrong.
Start with the shifter cables, check and make sure everything is still connected and not loose. Also follow cctgene's suggestion. Transmission problems can be very hard to diagnose...
I'm assuming that you just bought the car or swap? It's possible that there was an error somewhere in the installation, or that there was an existing problem that you did not know about.

FYI - The first thing I suspected, when I got the kid's car home was the shift cable. Like you described there was no catch between the gears. I checked out the shift cable both at the consoled and at the transmission and from what I could tell it was functioning properly. It was then that I checked the axles out and discovered that one had popped out.
Did you check to see if you lost any transmission fluid?

The car grinds when you pull it. I mean badly. In fact I was just going to have someone pull me while my engine idles but that won't work. I'm going to see if I can pull the CV shafts out in a day. The fluid is a the cold mark right now.
FYI - You should be able to tell if an axle popped out by just looking at it underneath the car. Check both axle and see if the inner joints are both flush against the transmission.
the "shift feeling" would still be there, even with the axle popping out. if the shifter and shift cables are good as you say...then internally you got a problem, if you can move the shifter up and down with the no shift feeling. almost like the manual shift valve is not even being moved from the shift linkage.....which is weird.
