1988 Civic - Was There Ever An Si Offered?
Okay is there anyone here that OWNS a 1988 Civic Si hatch?
I know for sure there was a 1988 CRX Si, but I have never seen a 1988 Civic Si hatch - EVER.
Couple this with the lack of a Civic Si listed in the Honda service manual for 1988, and I pose the question:
Was there a 1988 Civic Si?
I say no for those reasons listed above, and also from a few mechanics that I work with who "settled" for the DX hatch in 1988 when the EF/ED came out because there was no Si offered.
Also I have never seen a 1988 Civic Si hatch listed for sale - EVER.
So what do you guys think?

I'm pretty damn sure I've seen them for sale in the classifieds, but I am in Canada so maybe there's a difference between here and the States...
I know for sure that there are differences in trims from the U.S to Canada, so please let me clarify:
I am talking about U.S models only.
Sorry for the confusion.

Nope, haven't seen one.
In 88 & 89 only saw CRX Si's. As for the EF Civic, there is no Si, those came out in 90-91 I believe.

These sites concur with my theory that there was not a 1988 Si hatch:

I'm looking for more references, but those are pretty good though.

Thats sucks because I hate the seatbelts on the 89-91 civics/crx's
some '89 models have the B pillar mounted seat belts.....mine has a build date of 4/89...so i guess mine was a leftover '88 or a changer over, because I have run across other rexs and civics with similar build dates and the got the door mount type
..guess I got lucky.

well the 88 only had std and dx civic's and crx's came in hf dx and si honda will tell u also no 88 si hatch ive seen a few 89 si hatches u can tell the diff by the front bumper is very diff from the 90-91 and its painted also
Well the 1988-1989 civic hatch totally different side moldings, bumpers, corner lenses, rear tail inserts, doors, seatbelts, guage cluster bezels, hazard light switch, etc. from the 1990-1991 hatches.

There you go. No US 1988 Civic Si. I guess only in Canada... like the silver 91 CRX SE with the wing and different front end.

yeah go to honda automotive parts though....if you look for parts they have a 1988 SI, but when i called Majestic Honda(Hondautomotivepartsonline) they said there was no hatchback model 88 SI but there was a 88 CRX model SI. I guess all this has answered our questions haha.
