Want to recharge a/c. Located 3 bottles of R12
Ok guys I need some help. I bought a hf crx recently with a zc swap in it. Since I have had the car a/c has not worked. I am assuming that they disconnected the a/c when they did the swap because the owner said it work really good before the swap. Well yesterday I got my hands on three bottles of r12 and three bottles of oil to go along with it, best of all they were free!!!! I was wondering how can I tell how much oil is in the compressor and how much r12 I need to put in? Can I do this myself or do I need to take it to a shop. Thanks in advance.
If you have no knowledge of the ac system i would take it to a shop since the shop has the equipment to pressurize the system and see if it is leaking. there is a certain amount of oil that you compressor takes. if you put to much in it then your compressor will hydro lock. If you dont put enough oil in it then your moter will have a premature failure. It would be a shame if you just put in freon without making sure that it does not leak. If it leaks not only is that unlawfull but as r12 is getting more expensive and harder to find.
why dont you just convert to 134? r12 is harmful to the ozone layer lol Theres also something i just recently heard of called freeze 12, which is a "blend" of the two, but utilizes r12 fittings.. anywho, the system will be pressurized regardless of which ever you choose to utilize and if theres a bad leak i think you'll find out quickly.. But If its a small leak you can put ultraviolet dye in the system to find out where its leaking, with a sort of black light.. The problem with this whole deal is that you really need a ac machine to get all of the old r12 and oil out of the system.. your best bet is to start with a new compressor and dryer to ensure that you have all of the old oil out so youcan have a fresh start..
