Screeching metal sound when loading engine/transmission.
Hi Folks,
Thanks in advance for taking the time to read this and for any suggestions offered.
Ok first off, the car. K reg civic 1.5 16v LSI model (4dr saloon) Automatic
I have recently noticed that i can hear a screeching 'metal on metal' like sound coming from my car on occasion, it isn't present all the time and doesnt appear at all when the engine is just ticking over and im stationary.
However it does seem to appear when i put the engine under accel/decel load, but apparently not all the time.
My gut, and some friends agree, tells me that it could be a tranny problem, maybe the Torque Converter or Gearbox but when checking the Automatic Dipstick the fluid seemed to be fine (clear red-ish colour, no off smell), leaving the TC as the prime suspect.
I will endeavour to record the exact conditions in which the noise is present and post them here at a later date.
If anyone has any experience or suggestions regarding this it would be appreciated.

Update
The noise is not present when revving and stationary, but does seem to happen just as the car is getting to the required revs to change gear and stops immediately after the shift.
The screeching sound turned out to be the alternator belt just starting to wear, it has been replaced along with the powersteering belt.
The remaining noise seems to be like a rapid metal to metal tapping sound.
Cheers

Most likely it is a transmission issue from the sounds of it. Honda automatic transmissions were not known to last all that long, but generally the Civic ones would last much longer than Accord transmissions. Are you getting any shift flare? Does the transmission seem to change gears properly when it downshifts to climb a hill? How long since your last service?
