i have a d16y7. would any d series oil pan fit on it?? i cracked it today while exiting the freeway with a big *** rock in the middle of the road which i didnt dodge in time.. as i dragged it a little it cracked the bottom of my oil pan near where the bolt is to change the oil with a finger size gap taht i can stick in and out... is changing the oil pan yourself pretty simple to do?? i need to fix it by tuesday for work

 

any d series oil pan fits, its not a hard thing to do, its just jack unbolt and rebolt. You might want to get a new gasket at any parts store, as scraping the old gasket or reusing it tends to add up to problems. i have a extra d series oil pan if you need, let me know.

Typically some exhaust piping has to be removed, so get a can of PB Blaster and in advance soak around the threads of the exhaust bolts that you anticipate having to free.

You will need to get a new oil pan gasket. I recommend only OEM, so call your local Honda dealer now. Seems like the rubber for non-OEM gaskets just does not last as long.

Get some Hondabond sealant from a Honda motorcycle shop. Great stuff, and it is around half the price at a motorcycle shop than it will be at a Honda car dealer.

The little nuts (10 mm socket) that hold the pan to the block require only a small amount of torque (9 ft-lbs), and you want to tighten them in a certain order. Use a torque wrench, or many people do it just hand tight. Do not overtighten; this is one of the bigger mistakes with replacing the oil pan.

 

just make sure you dont leave the car with the oil pan off as you will get dirt in your motor. its easy to change the oil pan, it takes about an hour to do if you dont work very hard lol

 

I recently changed the oil pan on my EG, and its true, its quite easy to do. A few bolts and then swap the pan (usually the new oil pan comes with a rubber gasket..or mine did anyways). On the bright side, your lucky that rock on the highway just affected your oil pan, it could have been alot worse haha
