Default (mostly) stock rebuild..do i need to tune?

Im sure im coming off as ignorant by asking but i feel better to ask and not F%$# my motor up.

Im rebuilding my 2000 GSR

oem gsr pistons (oversize)
oem rings
oem gasket overhaul kit
oem oil pump
oem water pump
oem timing belt

also beefing up the head with ITR springs, retainers, and valves but nothing serious planned there.

MY QUESTIONS: Would i need to tune it after my build since the block will be bored, decked, and honed to ensure the pistons fit snugly?

If so, I wanna go with an OBDI p72 with Hondata s300. The motor is entirely stock..will I need new injectors, rail, fpr, etc?

Thanks in advance to anyone offering advice

P.S. Bolt-ons include

RMF narrow style header
Blox Intake manifold
Blox 70mm throttle body
2.5" intake

The tuning is definitely up to you. You could get away without tuning the car with that mild of a setup.

But it WILL help you to get the car tuned. You won't need anything other than a OBD2B to OBD1 conversion harness and whatever OBD1 ecu you plan to use. Everything else on the motor can stay stock. There is no need to upgrade injectors, or anything like that.

Stock fuel system is fine, no need for any upgrades. If you are planning on doing some future modifications, you can always step up to a larger injector. OEM rail and FPR are good for any all-motor build you can think of.

For a mostly OE build, you will be fine running the stock P72 ECU. If you want to eek out some extra power, you can opt for a tuning solution like Hondata/eCtune/Neptune...etc.

I will just throw this out there, I think a Hondata S300 is a bit overkill for a simple OE build. Be sure to discuss with your tuner about what software he/she is comfortable with, but if your tuner suggests Hondata, go with it.

I feel the same way but since I already would have to buy a conversion harness and OBDI ecu I figured why not get the higher-end ecu mod so that it can be tuned while the car is running on the dyno? I am positive that my tuner knows Hondata (especially the s300) very well. He made 420hp/377tq on a co-worker's built b16 with stock cams on 18psi

Thank you both for your responses!

Two last questions though. when you said i should be fine with the stock ecu you meant the stock OBDII correct? Would there be any performance benefit to running a stock OBDI p72 as opposed to my OBDII?
